Post subject:  Blown Head Gasket!!!

Well, after swapping in a stock 4G63T and going through all the California smog BS it was finally time to bolt on some power! I just installed an EVO3 16G, 3" downpipe, 650cc injectors, EVO8 Maf and an Eprom ECU w/DSM link. It fired right up and ran like a champ, until I stoped at a light and noticed it was running a little rough. It runs but it's blowing a ton of white smoke, not good! When I got home I noticed the boost reference line coming off the turbo had popped off. I don't have a boost gauge yet so I had no idea. Oh well, time to pull the head. It seems like I'm always doing something to this thing!

Yeah, I know. I havn't installed the boost controller yet so I figured it would be fine. Go ahead and rub it in!

white smoke? how about a valve job? try out a compression test and a leak down test before you yank anything out

do a compression test first. my turbo Colt blew white smoke from grenaded pistons and rings.

What does the smoke smell like? My car blew out white smoke when I was pushing oil past the turbine seal of the turbo, but it smelled like gas. Also, if you had a blown HG it would most likely push coolant under boost. If you have milky color oil then you have a badly blown HG, if you are just pushing coolant under boost then its just leaking slightly under boost.

Thanks for the tips guys. The smoke smells sweet, it seems like it's burning coolant. I just checked the oil though and it isn't milky at all. Also when I looked under the hood the dipstick was out and there was oil blown out on that side of the engine compartment. That sucks! I guess it could also be the piston rings? Stupid question but how would a compression test determine if it's the HG or the piston rings? Maybe this post should be moved to the tech section.

ok, if it's white and sweet, then that's definitly coolant... just a heads up.
