Ive had everymodel made in 89, the colt vista wagon 4x4 5spd, the 89 c50turbo, 89 c10 turbo hatch, and 89 c10 turbo sedan.
You havan't had my wagon...
But anyway. My first car was an '87 Colt E 4 speed, red with gray cloth interior. Originally bought by my aunt new. She drove it for a number of years, then my mom bought it off her. It started leaking from the front main so it got parked when my grandfather died and my mom bought his Omni Turbo from my grandma.
The E sat for a few years until I got my license. The deal was that if I got it running, I could have it. I did, and I got it. I drove it through high school and one year of college. I would have kept it, but I needed something bigger for moving across the country. Enter the wagon.
I drove that car further than any car should have been driven on only 75% power. I found out too late it had a burned #3 exhaust valve. Not knowing what I know now, I kept driving it for another year and one and a half trips across the country. The engine still ran, albeit poorly, when I pulled it for the transplant. When the wagon failed the emissions test, I looked for Colt #3.
I hoped to find a turbo anything (C10 or C50). I did, and April 1, 2001 I bought a C10 Turbo and drove it home from Maryland. This was my favorite cat, but unfortunatlely I only had this one for a year and a half as it had an uncanny knack for attracting other vehicles to it at high rates of speed. After four accidents it was beyond reasonable repair.
As a stopgap, I drove a Ford Escort from Sept. '02 - Sept. '04. No Colt stories here.
Now, I have a C50, which I am starting to refer to as "that goddamn car." It was used and over-abused before I got it, and I realized the extent when it was too late to do anything about it. Like my sig says, it WILL make it through the winter. I hope to find a C50 in better shape in the next few months or so that will be worthy of a swap. That is my ultimate goal, besides making my wagon turbo driveable again.
