just wondering.. out of all the cars you could have built.... mitsubishi. why did you do it? 8)

well for me i built my 96 mirage beacuse i couldnt get the integra or civic i saw everyone else with,, thats what i had and thats what i was stuck with.. but later it grew on me. treated me right.. and ive loved mitsubishi ever since.

then i had a kid and bought a prestine 91 crx si... to keeo for my son...no matter how original and clean it was i wasnt happy thinking about him in that car...so i sold it... bought a colt bought an eclipse.. and whatever creation i come up with will become his.. a hotrod of his time i guess..
(dont get me wrong...imgonna cruise it and build it and dog it before he even knows what hit him) but the end result when all that is over andi have no license...ill get it right.. so when he puls up to senior prom. in his 89 colt.. it wont be his bucket...morelike his rocket..

thats why im doing it![/u][/i][/b]

Well, it all began about 8 years ago......

My first car was a 73 Mustang.....351 Cleveland....more torque than most trucks. More hood than most entire cars. and almost single digit MPG in the winter. Then my GF (soon to be wife, little did I know), had an 82 colt.... 1.4 liters of valve noise....but it was a double stick, and that was cool (manual transaxle). Around 1993 when the clutch blew and I didn't know how to fix it (oh naive me) and the colt went to join its brethren on the scrapheap, I started to do research on if there were any colts that looked good and had balls too. Sure enough in the used car guide was the 1989 Dodge Colt GT. 135hp DOHC 16 valve turbo. Not Recommended. That was all I needed.
I searched for about a year until my friendly neighborhood curber happened to have one for sale. After discovering weld marks on the front end, I called him on it having been written off, and got a pretty good deal for one with under 70000 km on it. Drove it for 7 years giving it nothing but oil, Fuel filter, and timing belt.

Then I found 4G61T.com. Again, "Not Recommended" if you want to just leave your car alone and enjoy it. Soon I had 63T dreams dancing in my head. This spring, with lots of help, did the swap and have been enjoying the car even more. It's still the most reliable car I've ever had. It's still one of the best sleepers on the road. I still take any excuse to go for a drive in it. And my poor Fiat sits untouched in its garage for another year......

power to weight and I fit in it. Hondas are fine just not my thing, I don't have dreams of keeping any car forever except maybe my 1G but its far from presitne or orginal since I already removed the abs, and a/c and a few other lil things, and almost nothing in its stock--lol

I myself am a C10 buff.. my dad bought a 86' Colt DL, hatch, brown in colour, automatic, when I was about born, in 1985. I always loved the look of it as I was growing up, the cozyness of it. About 13 years down the road in 1998 the car was too rusted to drive, so we brought it out to camp so I could learn to drive using it on the camp roads.. That's probably about when I decided I wanted to buy a Colt cuz' I had so much fun bombing around on the camp road, in the sand pit (never got stuck, could never understand how this thing was so 4X4 like.) So I drove a 89' Dodge Caravan for the first couple monthes of my lisense till I found a mint shape 89' C10 Dodge Colt DL, 5 speed, hatchback. It's the car I still currently own, when I bought the car I knew it was Mitsubishi, I didn't know these cars were Mitsubishi till about the time we brought the 86' Colt to camp, and that made me even more fond of them. My winter beater that is still in the works and should be on the road next week is a 89' C10 Colt Turbo and I just have the time of my life driving it, my girlfriend claims I enjoy driving the turbo over sex! which is only a half-truth. Haha, to sum it up, I think they are unique looking, lots of power in turbo-charged models, sleepers and they so different over the stupid hondas you see everywhere.. Colts/Mirages rock..

My second car. Got it for cheap, perfect mechanical condition. Small oil leak. PERFECT in every other aspect, and 60,000 original miles on the 1991 Eagle Summit Sedan 4g15. Drove it for a while, wanted music. Threw a killer sound system in there. Wanted style, swapped in BMW headlights, and clear corners. It's winter time, so I didn't get new wheels/tires. I wanted more interior "styling" so I painted my trim, and swapped in white faced gauges. I wanted a short shifter, so a friend of mine hacked it with me. Wanted more engine performance, so I bought 4g36 injectors, MAF, ECU, and throttle body. Can't wait to put it in.

Basically, what this post was about is that my car is VERY easy to work on, extremely reliable, good looking, and not very common. And not to mention, fun as hell to drive. I love mitsubishi.

well this 1990 colt gl is literally what i grew up driving with. my mom bought it in '90 and drove it to and from work for almost a decade. then she gave it to me... it all went downhill from there. before i knew it, the little voices in my head were telling me to put in a stereo and LOTS of neon. luckly this site saved me from those voices, but introduced me to some new ones. these are telling me to do the 4g63t swap, and i just can't resist them for too much longer...
*blacks out*
Hey! how'd this junkyard eclipse get in front of my house?!?!?!

Ive had everymodel made in 89, the colt vista wagon 4x4 5spd, the 89 c50turbo, 89 c10 turbo hatch, and 89 c10 turbo sedan.

My dad bought his gold 87 colt e(basic model), vinyl brown interior, push button am/fm stereo!! and gold hubcaps, and tinted windows.
My parents never made much money, he never owned a new car, but had to at least once in his lifetime buy one, all he could afford was a colt or a Lada.

When i was 16, got my license, he let me drive once in a while, i was the only one with a license, so we took it whenever we hit a club. Lots of memories in that car. THEN, i seen a nice hatchback colt, with TURBO lettering on it. Did some research, and found out there was an even cooler colt. I found a sweet black 89 eagle vista turbo hatch, and it all began from there with the turbos. Later found the sedan i currently own, sold my dads gold one to a neighbour, and gave him the sedan, he loves it, but wont admit.

Ive learned sooooo much from the colt, it was the first car Ive ever ripped out a motor from, did a rebuild on, actually raced other cars and have won.

Ive tried going away from the colts, and have returned. Had a 92 Maxima fully loaded leather/cruise/a/c for six years, but had to get back in a colt, so i sold it and repo'd my dads sedan, and i got him a 95 Tercel.

I know, what a freak! I am the black sheep, baaa baa baaaa.
For some reason, i favor the c10 over the much faster c50. Weird.

Charles

Not a honda and the engine actually has torque.
I like to be a bit different, eg colt.

at that time i had heard that "only a talon motor can go into a certain year mirage" was deep into yahoo looked up something like turbo, dohc, mitsubishi or talon and i came to lilevo's page, his car was everything i wanted at the time, i had owned an altima and a lincoln but both were too expensive to fix up, and everyone already knew a altima was fast, and the lincoln was a fat underpowered(175hp) 2 ton tub.4g63mirage had the perfect car that looked like a peice-o-shite but could run corvettes. My addiction was born. i went out and bought one, same colour and trim ,moded it, 3 csm cars later im still hooked.

For the women  NOT

I was given a 89'Colt turbo basicly for free, it had throwen a timing belt. At the same time I got the car I started working at Mitsubishi. Next thing I know Im throwing a 4g63t in the little guy. Being the only 4g63t powered Colt in St.Louis for 3 years everyone knows me and my car. I cant get any 4 bangers to race anymore.

Soon to be the only AWD 4g63t powered Colt in STL :o

I've been around Mitsubishis/Dodges since I was a baby. The first car I can remember was our 87 Dodge Colt. She wasn't too fancy. Had all the basics but was tough as a rock and did her job to this very day. We had her for over 15 years until we sold her to a good friend of my parents who's taking good care of her today. During my high school days I had a 91' Dodge Colt hatchback. The great thing about that car was because it wasn't a Honda, no one broke into it to steal my stereo. I'm transitioning now of what kind of DSM to purchase. I've only begun working on turbo Mirages recently since my buddy bought one when we first began college. I'm thinking of purchasing the exact same one he has or do a 4G63T transplant into my Hyundai Excel hatchback. The only main reason I enjoy them is simply because its not your run of the mill car and its definitely not a honda. Our parts are somewhat cheaper too.

I loved the C10 turbos before I even had a colt. Then after 2 c10's and 2 200gt's, I decided I needed a turbo. Looked a long time, but finally found one in 2002 in mint lady driven condition, paid $3000 for it, but its been worth it!

You havan't had my wagon... ;)

But anyway. My first car was an '87 Colt E 4 speed, red with gray cloth interior. Originally bought by my aunt new. She drove it for a number of years, then my mom bought it off her. It started leaking from the front main so it got parked when my grandfather died and my mom bought his Omni Turbo from my grandma.

The E sat for a few years until I got my license. The deal was that if I got it running, I could have it. I did, and I got it. I drove it through high school and one year of college. I would have kept it, but I needed something bigger for moving across the country. Enter the wagon.

I drove that car further than any car should have been driven on only 75% power. I found out too late it had a burned #3 exhaust valve. Not knowing what I know now, I kept driving it for another year and one and a half trips across the country. The engine still ran, albeit poorly, when I pulled it for the transplant. When the wagon failed the emissions test, I looked for Colt #3.

I hoped to find a turbo anything (C10 or C50). I did, and April 1, 2001 I bought a C10 Turbo and drove it home from Maryland. This was my favorite cat, but unfortunatlely I only had this one for a year and a half as it had an uncanny knack for attracting other vehicles to it at high rates of speed. After four accidents it was beyond reasonable repair.

As a stopgap, I drove a Ford Escort from Sept. '02 - Sept. '04. No Colt stories here.

Now, I have a C50, which I am starting to refer to as "that goddamn car." It was used and over-abused before I got it, and I realized the extent when it was too late to do anything about it. Like my sig says, it WILL make it through the winter. I hope to find a C50 in better shape in the next few months or so that will be worthy of a swap. That is my ultimate goal, besides making my wagon turbo driveable again. :)
