What are people using as a cheaper alternative to Dynamat these days?

High grade Roofing tar. Works awsome! Smells bad for about a week but do it in the summer time and strip your interior right out. Fix your floor if you have any rust and give that a good 3 coats, a coat inside the doors and 2 coats on the wheel wells and a coat under the wheel wells with a coat of undercoating spray. This gives much better bass, alot less road noise, you dont here the rocks hitting the underbody going down gravel roads. It takes care of any rusting from the inside out, fairly cheap and easy to do. The smell comes out after about a week. If you want your car to be caddy quiet line the doors with underlay. Lowers the road noise about 80%, plus makes your doors make that high perfomance car sound when you shut the doors, a nice thump!

I used Nuprene, found it on eBay. Here's a link:

Obviously the guy has access to tons of it. I used one sheet of that on body panels, and a sheet of this:

under the carpet. All I hear now is the wind noise from the door's weatherseal.

I use gatorguard box liner on the eouter skin, and brown bread on the inside panels.
ice sheild(roofing stuff) will work, but the surface must be perfectly clean, and it's a pain to install on curvy surfaces(hard to stretch) 8) .

why alternative then dynamat you ask? because you can get a cheaper product that gives you more "bang for the buck" over dynamat. For example, ebay has many different ones and they also have dynamat. for a 30sq ft dynamat is about a little less then 100. But if you search a little more, you would of course find a alternative sound deadener matting thats 100sq ft for roughly the same ammount you would pay for a dynamat. Theres no question that dynamat is better then if not the best auto sound deadener in the states. But, if you add 3 sq ft on top of each other, don't you think it would be better then dynamat? All sound deadener mats are made to be placed on top of each layer as much as you like to deaden more parts then others. So you have more options and flexabilities if you have a 100sq ft rather then 30 sq ft. note:dynamat is thicker then most mats
