I have a McIntosh 4 channel amp. 50Wx4 Was given to me a long time ago. I opened it up and the main power trace on the board was melted. I resoldered it and now the amp works. Problem is that it works with only two inputs. I have two tens hooked up bridged to channels 1&2, 3&4. It puts out a rythmic thump thump thump over the music if i plug the signal inputs into channels 3&4. 1&2 sound fine. What could be causing this? Is it fixable? I looked this amp up on the web and seems to retail for over $1200. :o

$1200 for a 4x50watt? They're usually pretty much free here :)

Sounds like PSU dead, or if it's a shared PSU between the amps then the amps dead. Sounds like a typical amp fault, oscillating at a low frequency.

Chances are someone has shorted the output, blew an amp chip which fried a track as well.

If you want it fixed, give me a PM, I built my own last year.

Something else strange. I noticed that i have bass coming only from one channel. High freqs from the other three. Swapping inputs around changes nothing. This thing booms from one channel tho!

Sounds like your circuits are crossed in your amp. By switching the input tells you that your freq. is messed up in your amp. If you really like the amp I would take it in and get it repaired. It might be cheaper just to buy a new amp.
