Hey
While this may sound like a dumb question to many of you, its been bugging me for a while so i may as well ask...
How do u get the BOV noise (on turbo cars of course)
Can u sit there at a stand-still with ur foot on the clutch and press the accellerator then release and that makes the noise or do u hav to push the accel and then the clutch after
if someone can understand my babbling then an answer would be appreciated :P
thanx

if youve noy played with the engine you will only hear a slight noise but when you put on a dump valve its makes the noise even more!!
it works from boost pressure when the pressure gets high and you release the throttle the valve purges the air making the pssssh sound.

this is my girlfrends turbo you can see the dump valve quite well on the picture.

its nothing to do with the clutch its all about getting the boost pressure up then releacing it all you need to do is rev the engine hard then releace the throttle you dont need to touch the clutch at idle :) then pssssh

Yes but if yoru BOV is still connected into your intake it is going to be reallly really quiet. You have to take the tube off to let it go out to the atmosphere for it to be loud. Although this is fun do go around a blowing off at people. It will make yoru car run rich in between shifts. For your car has a mass air and the air that is going out the BOV is metered air (by the mass) and if you blow it to the mass air you will kinda bog in between shifts becasue the computer has already give the engine fuel for that metered air. So you need to keep in in the intake if you want to vent it is safe for your engine. But it will foul your plugs after about 6-10 thousand miles. For best performance you need to keep in located in the intake. If you open up to the atmosphere it will be really loud.

To make it blow off rev it up to about 4500 and let off. You have to punch it not gradually get up there. You have to build boost for it to make the sound

well i hav a habbit of keeping the car in 1st gear at idle with the clutch pedal pressed in, instead of putting it into neutral and taking my foot off the clutch even at a looong as stop sign. So what ur tellin me is that i can sit there at idle, with the clutch pedal pressed in and just rev away and it will go psshhhhhht. cool
excuse my lack of knowledge, as i have never had a turbo car and my dads old turbo skyline didnt have a BOV so i didnt really know much about them
man i gotta get me a turbo mirage

I explaind it already the metered air is go to the open atmosphere and the computer has already given the engine the fuel for that un-mtered air. RICH is when your getting to much fuel LEAN is when your not getting enough fuel. And yes you can have it in nuetral or with the clutch pressed in and in gear either way. If it is to the open atmoshphere you can hear it in between shifts. The BOV is there so that your turbo doesn't loose its momentum. OR Spoolage.

ohhh ok i get it now, thanx for the help.
the majority of turbo cars i see have loud BOVs, buti think i will attach it to the intake as u said it is better for the engine. Do u think this would be the same for a turbo skyline cause ive noticed alot of them have loud BOVs.

the skyline has a bov and if you completely take off the air box and just have the filter (on a mirage or dsm)it makes the bov louder too
