Hi guys!
My 4g61t factory cyborg has blown.
Purchased a na 4g61 to take my tdo4L,evo 510 injectors vr4 afm and ecu.
I know the basics with na engine not having oil squirters and needing thermo housing sump exhaust manifold and maybe afm pin changed.
Is there anything really important to change or something that will help with compression differences?
I want to run on 12 psi but not kill it within a year. Any direction for help would be great.

Cheers,

Layne

What is wrong with the motor in the car now?

Is the motor already turbocharged?

Best option for you, is to install a crate/JDM 4g61t or 1G 4g63t (early style like the 90-94 Eclipse/Talon/Laser).

Source a few bits here and there, or find a car that already has all this installed, and be done with it.

Problem solved.

The N/A engine doesn't have a knock sensor, and you'll also need to drill/tap the oil pan for an oil return line. The higher compression isn't a very big deal, just run higher octane fuel, or E85 if you have it available where you live. Please put a location in your profile.

As Tonus mentioned, you should be good to go at the lower power and boost levels of the td04 turbo frame.

Re-use your turbo related bits, and swap in the NA bottom end, or keep the 4g61 NA complete, and swap over your turbo stuff complete,

IE manifolds, keep turbo bolted to the exhaust manifold, oil pan swap, etc, etc.

May have to swap over the oil filter housing, not sure on that one.

Essentially you only need the core of the engine, and as long as your tune is perfect, it should in theory survive under those power levels for some time.

Have you tried to source a 4g61t or 4g63t motor, complete?

There are some on the island, well, lots to be sure.

You'll need a turbo ECU with a knock board attached, the N/A ECU doesn't have one, thus no way to control the knock sensor...the sensor should physically screw into the back of the block though.

Yes, you can use the oil pan (sump) from a turbo engine, will work fine.

Do you NEED a knock sensor? All it does is listen for pinging, which a driver does too and tunes accordingly.

Do you NEED one? No. Do you WANT one? Probably. You don't always hear the engine pinging, especially not on higher-horsepower applications when the engine just simply makes more noise (especially if you have an external wastegate). I've never heard any of my cars ping audibly, even when they were mostly stock. There's also no way for you to adjust the tune to stop the pinging anywhere near as quick as the ECU can, because most piggyback tuners don't allow you to adjust timing, and especially not on the fly. This is especially more important when you're boosting an engine that was naturally aspirated, because it has higher compression, and will be that much more likely the knock, unless you're constantly running really good fuel in there.

With all the hassle of making a n/a 4g61 turbocharged, you'd be better off $ wise just buying a 4g61t/63t yard pull.

I don't know if that's really true anymore. 4G63T's have gotten stupid expensive, and you rarely see one in a junkyard that's actually useable, especially if you want a 6-bolt. I don't know if that's true in NZ, but that's certainly what it's like here in SoCal.

Should be a factory turbo car, thus all the necessary wiring and such.

I had to reread the post to realize this.

Thus the reason for wanting to install a complete core, or having the bottom end rebuilt.

I took a non turbo eagle summit and put a 14b on it. We ran it as high as the turbo would go and mage 243hp and 258tq through an automatic transmission. I sold it and the next owner put a small 16g on it with nitrous. As far as I know the car still lives with that factory non turbo 1.6l.

Hi guys! All done and running. Goes good once shes warm. Engines not good when cold. Accelerator just stalls car when you push pedal and wont hold revs. Can hear an air suction noise and stalls. I can give accelerator slightest touch and its fine, get engine warm and with a bit of clutch riding shes away. Am I missing something off my blown turbo engine? Dizzy maybe? Or sensor thats factory turbo?

By dizzy, I assume you mean distributor. There isn't one on the 4G61, turbo or non-turbo...the ignition system is identical between the two. There's a lot of things that could cause what you're experiencing. Which ECU are you running? Which MAF? What size injectors? Do you have any way to monitor 02 sensor voltage, or do you have a wideband in the car? Could be something as simple as a coolant temperature sensor causing the car to run very rich when the engine is cold.
