Ok so to start off, i am working on my 1990 Mitsubishi mirage 4g15
To start off, i have already swapped in a 5spd manual transmission from a 1989 dodge colt 4g15. I converted it to hydro clutch and all the linkage is working well.
My issue is with the electrical system. when i try to start the car, I blow fuse #5 (10A) which controls the Back-Up Lights, Hazard Warning Lights, Inhibitor Switch (A/T), 3-Speed A/T Control Unit. http://www.lilevo.com/mirage/89-92%20Co ... eakers.pdf
Simply put, the car wont start.
I read on the forum that i need to jump Pins 8 and 9 together to bypass the clutch. I tried that with no result accept popped fuses. Pin 8 and 9 are on the connector going to the old automatic transmission right?
What would keep blowing the fuse, and perhaps, is that whats keeping my car from starting?

thank you
this site ROCKS! :supz:

also can i completely remove the TCM computer?

It's the two thick wires on that connector. I want to say one is black/red and the other is black/yellow. It sounds like maybe you connected the wrong wires together. I've probably done a half dozen auto to manual swaps on older Mitsubishi's and all I've ever done is connect those two wires. Yes, you can remove the tcu or just leave it, it doesn't matter.

Thanks 89Mirageman! I connected the yellow/black to the red/black wires and the good news is that fuses aren't being popped. still the starter will not engage and every time i turn the key the whole car looses power until i disconnect and reconnect the power. It is not an ECU issue as I swapped another to check if the same thing happened.
is there a thread on manual conversions that i can read up on? perhaps i am missing a step?
searching the archives proved to be of minimal use. links would be fantastic! Thanks again!

Does the starter do anything at all? Do you have the wire plugged into the tab on the starter, the black/yellow? Did you make sure to ground the trans case?

the starter was humming. after reviewing my FSM i realized that the negative ground wire DOES NOT attach to the starter on the other terminal. its been a while since an engine has been in there and i must have forgotten where the wire goes. so far so good! engine cranks over, is getting fuel and hopefully with my busy schedule it will be on the road in a week!
