My ecu, on my 89 mirage turbo (w/ 4g63t) is being screwy, what ecu should I replace it with? does it need to be chipped? any recommendations?

I have a stock 90 ECU as well as a 92 socketed EPROM with a custom chip that I received from prior owner. Stock ECU makes the car run decent but still not like it should. 92 ECU (w/ pins swapped) doesn't work at all according to shop.

Don't really know whats wrong with the ECU, but they guys at the shop said that I should get a new one.

This shop that you speak of, are they familiar with dsm's at all? If not they may have you replace half the car before you find the cause of your problem. This is why I encourage people to get out there and wrench on their own rides.

If you do indeed end up needing another ecu grab one from a 90 dsm or from another original turbo car. Also what injectors are you using, stock 450's?

ECU's rarely go bad, with the exception of leaking caps, which are clearly visible if you take the ECU apart and look at the board. I'd question why they're telling you the ECU is bad.

Yes.

It would be nice to know the symptoms and what you tried, if anything, to repair it and or known issues with the car in its current state.

Also, what was their diagnosis and why?
