hello, i am new to the site. I was trying to research a car i recently purchased and found this site. Hoping i can get some much needed info. I recently bought a 89 colt gt. it still has the original 1.6 dohc turbo engine, the turbo has been replaced with a big 16g and 3" exhaust with o2 dump, 1g sidemount ic, and 1 g bov. the engine runs ok but im having a hell of a time finding brake components and would like to know what other gt owners are doing. i can find pads for the rear but not any good pads for the front also i can not find rotors or calipers for front or rear. also what can i do for tuning? the maf translater in this thing has a temper at times. im not sure what injectors are in it, all i can tell so far is that they have blue tops. also i believe the fuel pump might be o.e. what kind of power can it support. im looking for around 300-350 bhp. Any suggestions are appreciated. So far the only thing anyone has said is to swap it to a 2.0. I dont want to swap the engine due to the fact that it runs ok. the car has been parked for about 5 years and now i am attemping to resurrect it. thanks

Welcome to the forum. There are numerous threads about brake upgrades on here. Please spend some time searching for that. Same goes for tuning options. There is a lot of really great tech info on this forum, and it will get you pointed in the right direction.

Also, please put a location in your profile.

There are a ton of ways to upgrade the brakes, like Tonus said do some searching. As for tuning I would go with dsm link, injectors 550cc or bigger, and put a walbo 255 in it.

I can make custom brake lines for your car. I can even have made slotted rotors for extra braking power. 8)

im not sure why but i cant seem to find any useful information on the brake issue. instead of just saying do some searching ( which i have done for weeks) maybe just a hint of what direction to go would be super helpful. i figured out that the injectors are out of a galant vr4, research has lead me to believe they are a 510cc? any input on this?

Injectors from the Galant VR4 are 450cc. Some of the JDM Galant VR4's had 510cc's, but these are not common (yellow top). Stock EVO 8-9 are 560cc, this is the most common and easiest injector ugprade, but you will need some sort of method to tune your partial throttle driving and idle, or else you won't be too happy with the larger injectors. The car will run very rich.

As far as brakes go, most people use the Galant VR4 hubs/spindles, and then you can use the Galant VR4's larger rotors and 2-piston calipers. You will need 15" wheels for this, and you will also need camber plates or some other way to correct for all the positive camber that the Galant stuff will give you. There have been people on here who have figured out how to ugprade the brakes using Expo/Summit hubs, which will allow you to run larger rotors and different calipers.

There is good information in the archives, although some of is out-dated:

ok so i have searched the forum for issues im encountering but i suppose my car is set up differently than others. the car ran good one day and i removed the battery. i then re-installed the battery and the car will not run now. uuuggggghhhhh anyhow. i have spark and i can hear the fuel pump cycling. im not sure however that the injecters are operating. i sprayed starting fluid in the throttle body and the car started and ran for 1-2 seconds. the car has a maf translater and im not sure how to test it. also ive been told that the car should still run if the maf is bad? obviously I am new to dsm.
