I am looking at buying this colt and had my father-in-law test drive it due to scheduling conflicts. He said he heard a clunking when shifting from first to second. Any ideas what it could be? He said it happened regardles of how gingerly he shifted. The clunk was less noticeable when shifting real slowly though. |

The second gear synchronizer is worn, causing an audible crunch or clunk when shifting into second. Very common occurrence with 90's Mitsubishi transmissions. |

Could be something as simple as needing a fluid change. I've experienced clunking like that, and changing the fluid for something like thinner BG Synchroshift made it go away. |

Hrmm...the has a dented hood minor surface and a decent but dirty interior. Think it would be worth 600 bux. Oh and it has 113k miles on it and runs pretty good but burns some oil. |

Buy it for $500, swap the trans fluid and drive it real nice. Will probably run for another 100,000 miles at least. |

If all is proper but the trans goes out, they run about $50-200. Not a big deal, as long as you can find one, either here or by other means. |

Is it an original turbo car? Also, please put a location in your profile

No its not an original turbo car. I will put my location in when I get home from work. I thought it was in from before but it has been a while since I have been on here. I guess I will offer him 500 and see if he takes it. |

So after picking up the car today the clunking isnt coming from the tranny and it is more than just first to second and is probably more related to the axle issue he mentioned in the add. Wish I could have test drove it instead of my father-in-law. It also had the 5 speed swapped in at some point because the tranny code on the firewall is for an automatic lol. The car is in rougher shape than my father-in-law lead me to believe but screw it I got a colt for 500 bux |

Quote: Where is the tranny code on the transmission by the way so I can see what is in it?
Should be right on the top of the bellhousing where it bolts up to the block. You will probably have to clean the surface a lot to see it.

Yup, got that part of it. Was curious what the specific trans code on the firewall tag is. Given that he is new to Colts I wanted to make sure it was an auto trans code. Swapping CSMs and DSMs from auto to manual isn't just nuts and bolts. Not saying it's hard, but I've done it and I doubt the average ass-hole with a socket set will get it right. |
