Hi guys,
Im a newbie, ive searched this forum but cant seem to find what im looking for.

I just recently bought a lancer with the 4g61t in it, awesome little motor.
It has the check engine light on , turns on after about a minute, the car does not have to be turned on.
Ive disconnected the battery to reset the codes but it still comes on.
I got the voltmeter on to the data link connector to find code 31, knock sensor.

So i went and got a mitsubihi workshop manual , thats so complicated i cant seem to find the things im looking for.

I cant locate the damn thing, can anyone describe or preferably have a picture of where it is, and how do i check if its working right. I was just going to get a brand new one, and was told its the same as the vr4 uses ( is that right?)
And was told 120 which is ok but id like to check if the original sensor is working correctly.

If anyone can help me out that would be appreciated. Thank you
Jt

It is at the back of the block on the firewall side under the intake manifold. They do wear down due to heat and age. I recommend getting a brand new one when you are sure that is your issue. http://www.extremepsi.com/store/product ... t=0&page=1

A pain to get to though huh? Is there an easier way to get to it than taking the intake manifuld of?

You don't need to take anything off, you will do it mostly by feel with your right hand from the timing belt side or from under neath. If you're left handed pull the throttle body elbow off and go in from that side, it's an easy job.

Also don't forget to add a location to your profile.

Sorry one last question...
My knock sensor ( old one) is leaking oil out of it, thats a pretty much def on it being busted ?
Also,
what size spanner is it to take it of? I tried a 19 mm and it was to small, and anything i have above that seems to large to get in there?
I was thinking of just cutting the cable to the old knock sensor and using a ratchet to get the thing of then putting the new one in but still leaves the problem of tightening it...

Any suggestions? Sorry i know im asking a lot but i made the mistake with my liberty b4 01 of not asking everything and ended up blowing the motor....

Thanks.

Just use an adjustable wrench, it shouldn't be that tight. And that is most likely the resin that has deteriorated and melted and that is a sure sign of needing replacement.

I use a small crescent wrench.. one that opens up just enough to fit the sensor.. its shorter in length than a wrench is so it makes it slightly easier to use.

LOL after looking at that pic again it says metric... its adjustable so its neither metric or standard. how funny

Btw i think when they say metric or imperial on an adjustable wrench they mean what its max size goes to.... still doesnt really make sense but my little spanner says metric and goes to 19 mm.... just a guess

So i just went out and bought another cresent wrench the right size... seems my theory behind metric or imperial is wrong as this one said neither on it and is 20mm or 8 inches... i guess no matter what its max size is it can be converted either way....funny how the smaller one i had said metric....
