would someone be able to help me with finding a sutiable gearbox as an replacement? as i have a fwd 1988 4g61t and in new zealand it is hard to sorce the same type gearbox, the wreaker said id blow up a 4g61 (non turbo) gearbox to quickly to bother, i also hurd a awd 4g63t gearbox would work but you would have to weld up the rear driveline in the gearbox, i am not a well experanced person with cars but am keen to teach myself and have a crack at it, so if you would be able to provide a few gearboxs with what modifications id have to makre to fit that would be very much appersiated thanks :)

I use the KM206, which is the non-turbo 4g61 transmission, with a 230hp turbo-charged 4g61 with no problems. If you can source a KM206, I would not hesitate to buy it and use it.

An AWD DSM transmission can be used but the center differential has to be welded and an AWD flywheel has to be used.

Would this gear box came from an Hinday Elantra?

I THINK that I read the KM206 can be found in some Elantras.

You can use an AWD tranny without welding anything, all you need is one of these:

It's non-permanent, isn't too hard to install, and only costs $100. I've been using one in my car, and it's been great.
