I found a local who's replacing the goodies in his Gvr4 with stuff his Talon TSI parts car. Of these parts, he's pretty much swapping all the AWD parts and is offering me the AWD parts from his Galant.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me but im just wondering: Will a 91' Galant Vr4 parts go into my 89' Eagle Summit?

thanks

question you should ask yourself is... why is he swapping out his awd setups for a dsm setup..there is nothing wrong with the vr4 stuff that warrents swapping it out.. there must be something wrong with it.

also they had aws..which most galant owners dissable..that might be more of a pain for you than just getting a dsm rearend setup.

yeah, i actually was thinking about why he would swap a perfectly 'good' vr4 rear end for a tsi's.. I should ask him lol. thanks for the input!

and will I have to modify the vr4's axles and hubs to disable the all wheel steering?

He's probably going to the much stronger 4 bolt rear the mid 92-94 1g dsm's have. What year is his donor Talon?

hmmm.. he did mention something about the rear bolts, but when i saw his donor talon, it was the 3 bolt. Looks like i'll have to do some more investigating.

Aggghh.. I really wanna start working on something already!

I have a three bolt rear in my car; it works a lot better than the "mint" four bolt I payed nearly $400 for that blew up in two weeks.

so it really doesnt matter if i get the 3 or 4 bolt even if im also doing the 4g63 swap with the AWD?

and is there anything difference in procedure when getting my AWD swap parts from a Galant vr4 vs. getting it from a DSM such as a Talon?

with the galant parts you can keep the 4 lug.

My buddy did a full front and rear subframe swap on his gvr4 just for the 5 lug swap. To him it was easier to just do that instead of swapping hubs, we have front and rear gvr4 subframes in my shop just sitting.

hmm. Are you saying that its pretty much the same thing?

If so then it shouldnt be too hard swapping the Gvr4 rear end+driveshaft into my 89 Eagle summit.

Thanks for all the help guys!

Take it from a GVR4 owner who has done 4-bolt upgrade. The only differences between the GVR4 stuff and the DSM stuff are: wheel lug nut count (GVR4=4 lug, DSM=5 lug), GVR4 is NON LSD!!!!, DSM is LSD, and GVR4 had rear wheel steering.

Once the rear steer is disabled, the GVR4 acts the same as the DSM rear subframe.

The mounting points are identical, the differentials are interchangeable (in the subframe, only a GVR4 diff can run rear steer, but you can shove the LSD internals into a GVR4 housing), wheel bearings are the same, suspension links are the same, strut mounting locations are the same.

Of course, DSMs can be 3 or 4 bolt, and auto or manual gear ratio, while all GVR4s are 3 bolt manual cars.
