just picked up my first young male horse. its a bit different from what the rest of you guys probably own but im pretty excited about the potential.
(and this may be detrimental to mention, but im friends with dan and tony).

so, on to the young male horse. its a 92 AWD w/ 56k original miles. currently has an auto 4G64 but the plan is to convert it to a 5 speed and drop in a 4G63. im new to DSM's but have tons of car/motor swap experience, etc. just starting my research on everything so feel free to post on a few of the things im listing below if you have input (starting a mental list of what im up against/will need to start acquiring). thanks and i'll be sure to post as things progress!

*i found this (through a board search) so no need to cover some of what is addressed there...
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3117423/1 ... mit/page-2

- think i saw someone put on 3000GT front brakes calipers and/rotors. anyone know if these bolt up?
- what are my suspension options?
- will the 4G64 motor mounts/subframe work w/ the 4G63?
- will the colt 5 speed stuff work? i might have access to a trans, 4 bolt rear and shifter/linkage, and possible a pedal set
- will a 4 bolt rear end work w/ the 3 bolt hubs? if not, what hubs do i need?
*(im not planning to make a ton of power so im only converting it if the gear ratio will be off w/ the 5 speed trans)

4g6x motor mounts should be all the same. 1g vistas and 1g dsms should have the same awd system, and the 2g vistas and 2g dsm's should have the same awd systems also. Hope this helps!

I drove this today and all it needs is a baby seat and 200 more hp.

The only thing that's gonna be happening in this van is lots and lots of gay sex. Gonna be the homo version of the bang bus, only it'll have a shitload of power too.

Actually you can buy 91/92 Galant VR-4 front rotors and toss them on the stock knuckles/hubs. Then the GVR4 calipers bolt right on. Remember you can grab the twin piston calipers from an early 90's Diamante at the junkyard too. Those are super easy to find.

- what are my suspension options?

grndsm on here made Evo stuff work on his wagon.

- will the 4G64 motor mounts/subframe work w/ the 4G63?

Yes, since yours is a 92 it actually has a 6 bolt 4G64. The engine mounts bolt to the block, not the tranny like on later models.

- will the colt 5 speed stuff work? i might have access to a trans, 4 bolt rear and shifter/linkage, and possible a pedal set

If you're talking about 3g csm stuff then no, they are completely different cars and share no parts in common. You will need a manual brake/clutch pedal and shifter/cables from a colt vista, expo or eagle summit wagon.

- will a 4 bolt rear end work w/ the 3 bolt hubs? if not, what hubs do i need?

No, this wagon doesn't have much in common with the 1g dsm's either. I believe the ring and pinion will swap over but the rear suspension is completely different.

*(im not planning to make a ton of power so im only converting it if the gear ratio will be off w/ the 5 speed trans)

Also, why not just buy a nice set of DOHC pistons for the current engine and toss on a DOHC head? Or just pimp it like it is and have a nice reliable DD.

mainly because i have a nice reliable truck that is equally as boring to drive as this thing is in its current form. plus, if im going to get in to a situation where i cant smog it i might as well reap some real benefits!

found a 7 passenger expo at the yards yesterday. sadly, it was a FWD auto and the only one i saw. the only 2 potentially usable items that came to mind were as follows...

1. rear springs (stiffer) - sounds like the rear springs fit...can anyone confirm?

2. rear disc brakes - any idea if these are an option? the first issue that comes to mind (and im not sure if it can be overcome) is that the rear e-brake cable is longer (and also probably attaches differently so using mine might not be an feasible).

The rear springs are a little stiffer and do swap over. Not sure if the springs between a 1.8 and 2.4 are the same though, I'm guessing since it was a 7 passenger one it was a 2.4.

The brakes should swap over, however you will have to use a slide hammer to get your rear hubs off. I pulled Rono on here a rear disc setup but I got lucky and found an AWD one at the yard with rear discs so everything was a straight swap. These wagons also use the drum type ebrake setup so I am pretty sure you reuse your existing ebrake cables since they don't hook to the calipers anyway. You should just need the calipers, back plates, ebrake shoes, hydraulic lines and the rotors.

Wow that is one nice specimen you have there. Too bad its auto makes it a lot harder to swap. My van is a 93 so 7 bolt motor but a six bolt motor should still bolt in no problems. The manual vans come stock with a w5m33 trans so its a pretty easy swap even though i havent done it yet. Should just need a custom timing belt mount, exhaust, intercooler plumbing, relocation of misc items under the hood. The biggest job should be the wiring. If i do my swap before yours i will do a write up on it.

I dont know what kind of frontaxles you will need, obviously 93 van axles will work if you use a 2nd gen trans i dont know if 1st and 2nd gen dsms use the same axles somebody on here will know. I thought all the awd vans had 2nd gen dsm trans and 7 bolt motors...

yeah, i had a feeling the wiring would be fun but im not too worried....shouldnt be impossible. more concerned about potential drivetrain issues. nothing a little fab work cant ultimately take care of. :)

as a side not, does anyone know if the colt/mirage hatchback pedal set will bolt in to the vista?

as an update, we looked at the colt and colt vista side by side and it doesnt look like the pedal assembly is interchangeable.
