Guys,

I am starting looking for a FMIC for my Summit Wagon project. I am guessing that space limitations are similar to those in Mirages/Colts. So what "kits" do you guys tend to use?

I am sure this will be mostly custom plumbing job, but it would be nice to start with something close.

Leon

Come on, guys, many of you have front mount intercoolers on your Colt/Mirages... Let's see some photos!

Anything will be custom.

Best bet would be to buy the largest core that matches your power level and have someone weld custom end tanks. Inlet and outlet can go right next to the radiator on both sides for short route piping.

For me I just bought a cx racing intercooler and piping off of ebay. If you buy them separate then you don't have to pay for there stupid Blow off valve. It's all china stuff but its hella cheap, and I can't see why I need to spend 700% more on items that have no moving parts. After I do my mock up I'm going to buy any extra couplers I need.

Take the front end apart. Measure how much room you have for an FMIC. Buy a core from eBay that is roughly the size you can fit. Mount it up there, and make custom piping around it. There is no cookie-cutter way to do it on these cars, get whatever you can fit in there while still making the car look presentable with the front bumper back on (lots of people on here skip that step though).

There is significant differences in an ebay core and a garrett, but that's a whole nuther topic.

Can you get by with a ebay core? Sure. Is it the best, no

I don't really like eBay cores either, but it's the most cost-effective way to do it and some of them really aren't that bad. Another option is to run a stock EVO 8-10 FMIC, they seem to work pretty well and can be had for cheap.

Thats what I've always done, by an ebay core or a stock evo take off and then get some aluminized steel mandrel bends from JC Whitney. Hack them up with a chop saw, clean up the cuts and weld them together. Use couplers to join it together and paint them and you're good to go.

I agree with all of that. Just get something and make it fit.

I scored an srt-4 IC off ebay for $13 shipped. I am only saying this because its another OEM quality FMIC that can be had for cheap. Maybe not $13, but cheap enough

Thanks for that link, Mechacode! Looks like we do, indeed, have a very similar challenge!

Personally, I am not a big fan of sending the I/C pipes under the radiator support. I prefer to ether go around the support (like many 2G DSM kits) or go on ether side of the radiator (like the original Buschur 1G DSM kit). But first, I need to get some measurements on 1G cores.

Any other links?

Well, I ended up using 1G BR/IRC/Victory style of I/C with "short pipe routing".
