so what would have been the big contraversy in the whole "no, you cant use automatics in standards" thing. like, one guy told me "sure i can use it, youll just have to change a flywheel, thats it." is this true? that doesnt seem like very much work. ??? another guy said "nope, you cant use it, the mounts are probably all different, and it just wont work." i know that for an '89, you can use parts from '89's to '92's, so my guess would have been it would be ok....??? but im off to pick up the engine today so wish me luck! oh yah. picton's alright, dont be makin fun of my hickville ol' town eh? lol |

Wow! It does sound better when its put like this! Imagine that. "No. You can't use automatics in standards." One guy told me, "Sure you can use it. You will just have to change the flywheel. That's it." Is this true? That doesn't seem like very much work! Another guy said, "Nope. You can't use it. The mounts are probably all different and it just won't work!" I know that for an '89 CSM, one can use parts from '89 through '92. My guess was correct when i assumed everything would work. I'm off to pick up the engine today. Wish me luck! Oh yeah, Picton is alright. Don't make fun of my hickville ol' town! lol I am not making fun of your town, but rather its public education system. Good luck with everything! -bit p.s. I know you can not possibly be this illiterate. I am not trying to start off in bad terms. I am simply trying to make a point here. Conveying your message in a reasonable manner will net you better results. |

Yes, you can swap the engine. Yes, you will need to swap over the flywheel. ...BUT... You will also need the complete engine wiring harness and potentially the ECM or at least one of equivalence (1991-1992). Here's why: 1989 & 1990 CSM's used an 8 valve (4 intake, 4 exhaust) engine. 1991 and later used a 12 valve (8 intake, 4 exhaust) engine with a different distributor and throttle body sensors/actuators. So unless you want to putz around attempting to shove square pegs into round holes, you'd better count on getting a few more parts while you are at the wreckers. -Kyle |
