There is a local 4 door sedan here for sale with a blown engine (ran low on oil) and I am thinking about picking it up. Not sure exactly which model but I know it's between a 93 and 96. From what I've seen on the net the engine looks exactly like the 4G15 in our 3g C/S/M's. Anyone know if it's compatible? I still have a perfectly good 8v 4G15 from my 89 Colt and I could throw it in for a nice, cheap daily driver. Will the newer 12v head swap over to my block? The guy has misplaced the key so I couldn't take a look at the engine because he locked the doors.

3G engines will bolt in 4G cars. 4G engines won't bolt in 3G cars, because of differences in tranny and engine mount design. Bolting the 4G engine and tranny in a 3G is straight forward and will work.
So to answer your questions, the good ole 8 valver will bolt straight in using all the 4G sensors and stuff and ghetto fabbing the 8V dizzy to work w/ the 12V dizzy setup.
You won't have to do that if you bolt the 4G 12V head on the block. I just don't know, what head gasket to get. :-? People have converted 8V engines to 12V by just bolting on the 12V head.

Yeah I was planning to swap over the 12v head onto my 8v engine if it was possible. I think I may pick this car up, it's only $200 and has a little body damage but I can fix that myself.

Looks like I can have a reliable daily driver pretty cheap and if I get bored with it I can always do an EVO III swap in the future.
