Well, I was out on a joy ride testing out a new boost gauge (0-60 psi  ). While working my way to the limit, adding fuel and looking for knock, a newer flat paint R1 thought it would be fun to mock the loud, ugly shit box. I had just dialed it in at 32 psi and she was hungry.

He noticed my prowling and began making signals that made sense only to him. I decided to give him a signal and lit the tires up at 65 mph leaving a pair of tire marks for about 50 ft. We jostled for position in some traffic and found ourselves merging onto another highway. It was a clover leaf and he was in front and intended to say there, my car is no handling machine with Drag radials aired down and 175/65-14's at 45 psi on the rear. He hit it before we were out of the corner and put distance on me, maybe 5-6 lengths by the time I hit 3rd, by the top of third I was within 2 lengths and 4th brought his demise as I rolled by him. I gave him my signature stare :l33t: as I rolled by and ended up bouncing off the limiter. Missed 5th and BOOM!! Smoke everywhere. I pulled over at the next exit and she was smoking bad and obviously running on 3 cylinders.

I got it back to the shop and the initial inspection is cylinder 4 is done, probably cracked a piston from the looks of it. The spark plug was destroyed, looked like the cylinder went lean for some reason and melted the plug. I put a new plug in it just to see and no luck, she's done. No suprises here though, this is the original bottom end that I had meerly cleaned up and put back in the car. It was a combination of pistons and rods from two 4g61's and has been running strong for 3.5 years, every time this car started, it was abused. It had over 300 passes and tens of thousands of street pulls in the last two years alone.

No worries, I have another low mileage 4g61t short block just waiting its turn and was already planning on putting it in after discovering the uber low compression issue.

Sorry for the long post.
Bobby

You have done some awesome things with those little motors Bobby, it would of been priceless to see the look on the bikers face when he finds out that he couldnt beat a car with a motor that is not much bigger than his :D .

He is a 1.0 liter, 450-500 lbs including driver and just over 200 horse I think.
Your a 1.6 liter, few thousand lbs inc driver, but who knows how much power.

Congratulations man, its always good when you can beat a bike.

Cool story Bobby, sorry to hear about the motor man. Do you think you'll put in a cage this winter when you do the swap?

I'd like to but it depends on money. I've got to get the motor swapped out soon though as I've been getting this car dialed in really good on e85. I even averaged 30.2 mpg the last tank and next year I'm commuting almost 200 miles each day, to school and back. I want to use the Mirage as much as possible since it not only gets better milage than my Maxima, it also costs almost a dollar a gallon less and there are 4 e85 stations on my drive.

Any, thanks for the nice comments. I've been thinking about doing a bigger turbo just to see if this stronger motor will spool something larger.

At those boost levels and how fast the car is you have probably seen the limit of a single pump on E85. We are having issue of running lean at about 400whp on E85 and one walbro.

Larger turbo not in part or full boost, must be better for fuel economy when on part throttle cruise on the highway. I can't believe a 14b powered car with the 4g61 stock km210 behind it would be that gas friendly due to being in the RPM range where the turbo is going to be moving pretty quite when stepping on it a little.

I meen every dyno is gonna be different. 500whp in a 2400 lbs car on the dyno we use is a 9 second car, did your car run 9s?

Now that's what I like to hear! I have been figuring that 550-600awhp (again, depending on the dyno) in a 2500lb-ish car would be a contestant for 9's. I have a garage full of almost all of the parts I need. ARGH! I need to find more time to work on the Mirage!

Exactly! Only problem is staying out of boost and keeping these 1000+ cc injectors in the small zone. If I can control my urges, she gets great milage. The other nice thing about the bb 50 trim is that it can build 3-5 psi real easy just cruising up a hill at 3,000 rpms. Full spool doesn't come till about 4,500 in 4/5th gear though. Another large factor is the weight, its doesn't take a lot of power to just cruise at 65-70 mph when your only pulling 2300 lbs. The cams are reducing milage a little as a result of bottom end loss and the slight need for more throttle to over come it. After that its just tunning with Link.

I don't doubt that combo can reach 9's. I was probably less than 400 whp uncorrected when I ran 10.9 @ 134.4. This was with a cruddy 60' and the car was overheating. As we know, the motor began to go south but I got my 60's down a little and finally got NLTS working right, she was definately faster through the 1/8th on less boost. I realistically think with a good run at 30-32 psi could have put this car in the mid 10's at Denver elevation. I would have been totally shocked if it cracked 400 whp uncorrected too.
