Ok, so this isn't really a kill story because I didn't kill anything, but it's kind of cool nonetheless.

A friend of mine has a bone-stock EVO X. He and I just happened to be driving side-by-side the other day and I decided to antagonize him a little bit. I was in 3rd gear cruising along, and I got on it. He got on it too, and by some miracle I actually hung with him! He was about a half a car ahead of me, but he didn't pull at all from that point, we just stuck right there until I shut it down. He was also in 3rd gear and he was definitely trying. Here is a textbook case of how much weight reduction can help you, here are my mods:

-6-bolt 4G63 swap, removed balance shafts.
-Big 16g bolted to an 11B manifold, 2g 02 housing, stock pea-shooter exhaust with a dinky magnaflow muffler.
-660cc injectors
-Walbro 190 re-wired
-S'AFC
-1.6 ECU
-ZT2 wideband
-STOCK boost, stock airbox, stock air filter, no free mods whatsoever, non-intercooled.

I'd be shocked if this car was making as much power as a stock FWD DSM at the wheels, but it's hard to say because I have had a chance to tune it some.

CSM's RULE!!! :D

sweet with a 2.0 ecu, 3"exhaust, and 2g manifold it would be a totally different beast! But im guessing this a daily driver and Cali smog laws suck.

This is a daily driver. I've ran a 2.0 ECU in it and noticed no difference at all in terms of power--I've got a pretty decent tune going with the 1.6 ECU thanks to the S'AFC and the wideband.

I have a 2g manifold for it, will be adding a full 3" exhaust without a cat, MBC, FMIC with custom piping, 2g MAF, and probably a Cyclone Manifold once I jack the EPROM ECU out of my Eclipse. If I can get 300whp out of it I will be pretty happy, and that will be enough to melt the tires up to 90 mph anyway.

Haha, if anything I'd move back to Illinois where pre-OBDII cars don't even have any emissions testing whatsoever.

You do relize that EVO Xs are slow ass shit boxes stock right? They are only making 220whp in stock form.

I realize they're slow, but they still trap nearly 100mph out of the box, and I wouldn't expect my little Mirage to be anywhere close to that the way it is. I've seen more like 250whp out of them stock, not 220. That seems awfully low...

from what i've seen 220-230 on a mustang dyno, i have a friend with evox MR with bunch of mods that put down 280hp 280tq using ecutek on a mustang dyno

Well the only AWD dyno we have is a Mustang so thats maybe why my numbers seem low.

Either way Ive had my Mirage for 2 years now and Ive never even driven it, or driven any stock turbo Mirage. I would just imagine that since a DSM will go 90 mph stock that a Colt with a 4G63, 16g and a bunch of other mods being 700 lbs lighter would have to go at least 100???

I have no problem accepting that my Mirage could trap that much if I were running more boost with an intercooler, but I'm on stock boost (7psi?), and no intercooler. Stock exhaust too.

Nice 8)

Not surprised at all. Sadly, I was surprised how slow the X was when I drove it. He needs to go back to the vette.
