Whether you have a car equipped with electronic braking control mechanisms (defeatable or otherwise) or not, this article touches upon all the basics of why to use an automatic torque biasing differential and under what conditions it will shine (most) and some where it in theory could be overwhelmed or be out-legged by another product (small window for most drivers).

The article is written by Mini users and guys that routinely put down power in the 200+ HP mark. It is a great starting point considering what I had to read through on the internet, to come to my decision on whether I should upgrade my FWD DSM transmission (or any KM210+ FWD trans) or any AWD 1G style trans, with a Quaife ATB front differential.

In the case of the FWD transmissions, like the KM210/F5M31 and the F5M33, you can use the FWD DSM turbo Quaife front diff used from 1990-1992.5 with a 25 spline axle count, you cannot use the later style differential from Quaife or later original type front differential because it switched to 27 spline count axles after 1992.5.

The differential in question, that uses ball and cage bearings, extra depth requiring more shims than tapered roller bearings and requires the addition of the speedo ring to be pressed on, is as follows:
