Post subject:  Radiator hose vs AN fitting

Hi,

I wonder if I install my radiator with a common rad hose, or if I step up the project with AN fitting and « beautiful » ho$e.

Someone told me that a AN hose (for radiator) do not stay clean for long. Is it correct ? My concern is the OD (outside diameter) of my scirocco radiator , compare to my thermostat housing OD seem to be slightly different. (Actually, I don’t have the measure, but I will post it ASAP).

With the many fabricators in this forum, I'm sure someone has already done this project (rad hose with AN fitting). Are there advantages and disadvantages vs flexible rad hose ?

Pros :
+ I know a very good place who can weld me a AN fitting on my rad (aluminium) . Not a problem.
+ Will fix my OD difference between rad and thermostat housing

Cons :
- AN fitting are expensive, rubber hose are cheap
- Keep it simple and run it. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it !

If there a post about that, feel free to post it here !

Hi Guillaume.
34mm od for the th housing vs 32mm od for the rad, keep it simple...
Use a good clamp (not a cheap version) for the rad hose connection side, you can use this tape also : DEI for increase the rad od like me on both connections

I will give a try with those hose : Dayco Flexible Radiator Hoses (81031)

For only 9$ (US), it's hard to beat that cheap price. Anyone already try this dayco hose ?

Just go to your local auto parts store with a tape measure and find some that will work. I did that today with my Griffin radiator. I personally hate the look of the flex hoses.
