Its essentially like getting bolt in rally suspension, the parts are much heavier duty and it sits a little taller. I'm going out to do the last autocross of the season this morning with Angry Bird and will let you know how it stacks up against my KYB and Tein springs setup I had before. Thanks for posting a pic, it was not working so well for me.

It will seem like rally suspension but it won't have the same issues that rally stuff does for on street response.

Rally stuff has helper springs, and have a need for a major motion in the suspension to really get things moving, but otherwise are also very stiff from what I was reading. Could be way off base, but I think the uprated springs are going to the biggest difference ... but very good that the strut tubes are designed for those rates. I suspect that bumps at higher speeds will feel decent, whereas the ride will be rather stiff at much lower speeds. If it all bolts in, then a re-valve (if possible) would be the best way to engineer these at a later date. This can help in some ways with heavier wheels, but the idea is always to engineer for the weight/corner weights of the vehicle, while taking into account wheel weight - rally wheels are stupid heavy, whereas street rims/racing rims can be much lighter forgings, and therefore would require different tuning. This will give us a good base for parts shapes that are already engineered with many shock/coil-over companies.

Hi friends.
I'm looking this thread from the first day, i have find a good MR set used here (looking to negotiate the price actually).

After searching here and on Evom, i have find good informations about Evo X and CSM spring rate:
Quote:
From lilevo.com/mirage/ 89 turbo manual
Front Colt/Mirage
89 1.5l 90 lbs.in
89 1.6NA + TC 106 lbs.in
Rear Colt/Mirage
89 1.5 92 lbs.in
89 1.6L 104 lbs.in
EVO GSR :
Springs ...................... Front Rate ........ Rear (progressive) Rate
Stock GSR ......................195 lbs.in.......... 156 lbs.in- 207 lbs.in
Stock MR .......................195 lbs.in.......... 162lbs.in- 212 lbs.in
http://www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo-x- ... evo-x.html

My lowered springs h&R are rated 137 lbs.in front and 142 lbs.in rear, confirmed by H&R today.
I'm curious to see if a CSM lowering springs set fit an EVO X shock front and rear.
I think the rear is not the problem, side by side on the picture posted before (thanks Moulin13) it seem to be identical in outer diameter.
But for the front, i think the CSM top springs plate need to be used.

With a re valve work to match my spring rate, the weight of the wheels, the amount of weight resting on each tire contact patch ...
And a reputable shop to tune the combination, this setup will be a serious win like Tim says

I believe the rears are identical in length and diameter. The fronts might be as well with the exception of the top plate, but the other option would be to use e-bay coil over kit on the fronts, opening up all the rates and lengths. My X shocks came with Eibach springs so I'm guessing they are probably 50# stiffer than the stockers. At the last autocross which was a terrible course design, the Mirage was a lot funner and more planted.

Flying Eagle, true rally wheels are actually incredibly light for what they do around 15#, and nearly everyone runs a 15" tire, either a Maxxis or D-Mac. Suspension wise they are not that stiffly sprung, but do have a long range of travel with over sized shock shafts. My comment was in jest because the Mirage was sitting so much taller and my wife said it looked like a Dirt Fish car.

I would caution not to get lost in the forest, buy the X shocks and struts, which are already valved for a pig of a car 3500 pounds, 18 wheels, massive rotors, front biased. Pick the spring rates for the task at hand and enjoy. Is anyone even running bigger than a 15 inch wheel on the CSM?, and the rear suspension on these cars is horrific, its only use is to keep the gas tank from dragging.

I was misinformed about what I was reading into rally wheels without actually searching. Sorry for any misinformation on my end.

To prove woundup's point, here is a good read from Dymag's main site concerning weight and MOI.

Click me for a good read

For sale link for a multitude of rally Dymag wheels ... no confirmation with pictures that they are Dymag, but they are 15# according to the scale ...

Im hoping it will take up the space needed in the rear struts when an AWD swap is done. Ive seen pictures of them installed in DSMs and it raises the car ALOT! Ill post pics when its done

So this means we can all run air ride now right? Accuair makes a kit for the Evo X. Let the trolling begin.

HOLY hELL. I just ordered the evo x stock struts. Its about 1 inch taller than a DSM and has a smaller lower eyelet. I will have to press it out and install a dsm bushing

For the record:
This is how my Colt sits with the Evo X GSR Rears:

Not a big fan of lowered cars so I don't really like if it looks taller, also I just found a set of stock MR eibach springs so I may be replacing the stock GSRs for these...

Here is a strut comparison. I was surprised to see that The EvoX strut was slightly shorter than the Stock CSM strut. The CSM Strut has an extra Bushing welded onto it.

Top DSM AWD
Middle EVOX with a Cobb Spring
Bottom CSM FWD 1.6 T
