I have two transmissions right now and Im going to install a f5m21 in place of f4m21.

A few things I am interested in is transmission mods

-can I make any other transmission that's hydro (f5m31/3, f5m22) be converted to cable with the f5/4m21 parts
-Can a LSD be installed into my f5m21, f4m21 if not what transmissions are they available for

-Are there any high performance bearings for these transmissions
-How to remove throwout bearing


The f4m21 will be pulled apart and rebuilt once the f5m21 is installed.

Your easiest bet would be to convert your cable car to hydraulic, you just swap the pedal assemblies. Not sure about the quaife, you'd have to call them and ask. Nobody really builds F5m21 so you're gonna have to do a lot of research and teardowns to measure parts. The throwout bearings are pretty self explanatory once you have the trans off, it's just held on with a thin wire clip.

I will get another summit thats hydro on day, hydro is nice but im going to stick cable. It looks like the only real diff between f5m21/2 other than different ratios is the tapered bearings instead of straight roller bearings. Can I put a f5m22 diff in a 21 to convert it to tapered

Yes, it has been done. PM coltdriver92 on here. I would go ahead and say that it's totally not worth the effort, but he did it.

It's gonna be a lot cheaper and easier to just swap to a hydo setup. I get the whole "cable is simple" ideal but so is the hydro, there's a master, a line, and a slave, not a lot to go wrong. Lot easier on the leg too!

I apprieciate your input but im going to stay cable on this car for a while but it could change in a few years. With no power steering no ac and cable clutch in florida the car is what it is. The little bit of leg work out between cable/hydro aint shit i bike alot. I may try to put ac in it but thats another subject. Or just buy one thats hydro and a/c

I want to know every aspect of my 91 eagle summit - body tech bc I want some crazy body prep and paint. The transmission and engine are very important and I would like to gather what knowledge I can towards knowing every aspect of my car.

Im going to school for diesel technology or diesel mechanic so I have learned alot but have ALOT more the learn especially in gas engines and tiny fwd and awd transmission

There's not much you can't find out about your car on this forum, for a lot of us, there isn't a bolt on the car that hasn't been touched. A set of factory service manuals and a few days of reading will help a lot.

I agree you guys seem to have done it all to these cars, I have a 3g and 4g service/dealer manual but not the electrical copies because I don't need them yet. I read and reference to them all the time they are my bibles but somethings still arnt in there and or are hard to interpret since I am not a trained Mitsubishi tech from the 90s.

Little by little this car will come together
