I've always thought 15's with a 205-50-15 looked good on these cars but I've seen some with 16's that looked good too. It all depends on you.

Best for what? All depends on your needs and brake setup.

lets say on a stock brake setup. just upsizing. do the 16's don't have any clearance issues on full turn? and will not touch the chassis w/ 2 passenger inside?

15's are better. There are more tire options available, and they fit on the car better. 16's typically look HUGE on CSM's.

ok but there are only few choices of wheels on 15's compared to 16's. it hard to look for 15's w/ 114 pcd

One thing I've noticed is that wheels with a polished lip appear smaller. If I were to put 16's on a 3g I'd get something with a polished lip. This way they won't look too big and you can stuff larger brakes under there later too.

I'm with Tony though, I'd just rather have 15's. The tire will be slightly taller too so it'll ride better. I've seen plenty of 15's in 4x114.3.

Whatever the aesthetic, the only other concern is weight.

You will be increasing the unsprung weight at each suspended corner, as you upsize from the factory alum 14" rims.

15" leaves you in the realm of many aftermarket JDM wheels choices.

Minimum 15" to clear dual piston style Mitsu calipers and related hardware.

I have 205/45/16 on my summit. There is barely any rubbing at full lock with my manual steering rack. Here's a pic so you can get an idea of how they look.

Here is my colt. the Pic is from the PO. He had 17's WITH dsm Eibach lowering springs. the polished lip helps.

That's exactly what I mean. Most of the time 17's look way to big on a 3g but they actually look good.

Yea, like this. This was my first colt. the 17's looked massive.

here is mine 16x7.5 rim 40mm offset with 205/50/16
definitely looks pretty big. as far as a tire/rim sticking in or out its all about the offset also called backspacing.
if these rims had a 0mm offset they would be poking an 1" 1/2 or more oustside of the fender for example.

after fitting these, my ideal size probably would be a less wide rime like 6 or 6.5 instead of 7.5 with the same offset which would pull them in just a bit more. from the back it still looks like the tires stick out a little more than they should.

^^ Fixed your post, because the images weren't coming up properly. I like that style of wheel a lot, but I still think they look a little too big on the car. I'd prefer 15's, but that's just me. Here's what mind used to look like. 15x7 +40mm offset with 205/50 tires
