So I've parsed through some new and old posts and can't find a set conclusion or reasoning for this issue. I have CSM specific KYB Excel shocks (GR2) with cut 1g AWD springs up front. Previous owner was running these so I simply swapped the spring over to the new KYB Excel shocks I purchased. When I installed them, the upper spring perch/hat was resting on the inner fender well. I had to cut a portion of it off in order to provide some clearance. The issue is that the coil spring now rubs the inner fender well. Are the 1g AWD/FWD springs and the C52a/C53a springs the same diameter? From what I've read the answer is yes. If I'm running CSM specific KYBs and equivalent springs, I don't see how there should be a clearance issue but there is. I might try to get a set of non-cut 1g AWD springs and see if this clocks the upper spring perch/hat a different way. Could my issue be with the way the previous owner or someone in the past cut the 1g spring? Thanks for any help/suggestions in advance!

You should have plenty of clearance, I ran kyb agx's with awd lowering springs without rubbing. Perhaps you have a different control arm length.

Are you sure your top hats are installed correctly?

The tophats are offset, so if the springs aren't cut so that each end is in the exact same orientation, the tophat will rub.

I'm thinking this might be the issue. I'll have to verify where the spring was cut tonight, but IIRC the top spring cut point does not match up with the bottom coil spring end. I'll report back with my findings.

Top of the coil is flat so that doesn't matter. Just make sure the tail on the bottom is in the notch otherwise it will sit funny.
