Got some photos from Australia of a steering wheel that uses a boss to install the aftermarket steering wheel.

Now, there have been all kinds of issues with finding a boss kit that allows us to put an aftermarket steering wheel onto a tilt and telescoping column.

Anybody know what the issue is??

DSM steering wheel kits fit to the non-adjustable columns??

The boss below is connected to a column, but it only tilts according to the owner.

Here are some pics of the boss in question:

Do we need pics with the boss removed ??

The telescopic is a function of the wheel itself, not the column. Just take a peek behind your wheel :).

There's a Colt GT wheel at the shop, I can post a pic of it if you'd like. I might be up there this week.

The boss I ordered is arriving in a week's time, so I will have pics to add to this thread.

Man,i knew the answer to this before you made the thread. Its been a while since ive used the original GSR steering wheel and kinda forgot, considering i work with different model cars all day.Still pathetic though when i own 3 of these,4 including the one im wrecking out currently.

Anyhow, enough excuses.I can confirm what Broke4speed has said, the original GSR steering wheel has the tilt function of the steering wheel, not the column. My column should pretty much be same as yours, except for the fact that mines mounted on the right.

I think i have a couple spare boss kits for CB GSR's.

Also, doesn't interfere with the steering column shroud at all.Top or bottom half.

Even on the lower trim level Lancers without the tilt and telescope function would still fit a boss kit perfectly.Almost positive on that.

I should of looked into this and told you myself Flying Eagle,i was being lazy.

Cheers

My hub is listed as 'at local processing facility', so I should have it today or tomorrow. Hopefully it's the right one, because it was cheeeeeeap :).

So, most people might be willing to do away with the telescoping function, but with the wheel now being set in place, how far from the plastic trim does it place the hand held outer ring?

With the boss in place, and a flat bar across the bottom of the outer ring, how far does it measure with a tape or ruler?

Be nice to have values for turbo/GSR wheels extended/bottomed, Base models, and aftermarket boss's to compare relative to each other. This way people can decide if they can live with a steering wheel that might be closer to the dash than they like, in the case of what was a turbo/GSR model tilt/telescoping model.

No worries about not having the answer on hand Billybob, this may help a bunch of people in the future.

My hub came in :).
Here's the pics and info. It's from a company called "Luisi", not sure if it's old stock or not. The label seems a bit yellowed.

I can get those measurements tonight, Tim. I've got a 'momo-esque' wheel at home I am going to use for mockup purposes.

Just to confirm, that ^ telescopes?

No, as mentioned above, the telescopic function is part of the stock GT Turbo wheel, not the column. With an aftermarket hub/wheel setup, the column still tilts but the telescopic is gone.

I believe the steering shaft is different too. I had a 91 Summit with the telescoping wheel. I tried an aftermarket wheel on it and it left a gap, kinda ugly. Plus, I could not mount the telescoping wheel on my colt and the shaft was not long enough.

Ok, first impressions: It fits, but it's not of a super high quality. No big whoop, IMO. It fits :).

Second: The shroud needs to be slid downwards slightly, or there is a huge gap between the ignition cover and the hub. This leaves a slight gap between the two pieces of the hub shroud. If you're slightly picky about your car, you won't enjoy this. I'm not so picky.

Third: The horn works :).

I'd give it a 7/10. It's not momo quality, but it'll do.

The placement of the wheel is about the same as a fully extended stock setup. My tester wheel was comfy, position-wise, but it's a thicker rim overall. It was too cold to take pictures, and I still have my tweaking to take care of. It's dual-drilled, so any aftermarket wheel will fit. I'm shooting for a slight dish, just to make it uber-comfy for me :).

How did you order the Luisi adapter? I went to the luisiwheels.com page but didn't see any info on adapters. I wonder if we should just call them and order the part number on the box in your picture.

Oh, you said it was cheeeeeeeap. How cheap is that? Ha.

Sorry, I thought I posted the link. It was on ebay.com.au.
It was $35 CAN plus $35 shipping, which I guess isn't super cheap, but I was pretty excited, hahaha.

It was listed as a boss kit for 89-92 lancers w/telescopic.
