Ok, I have a newb question, since I've never really looked into this. I found a 1.8 DOHC elantra yesterday, in a junkyard, and it's got all the goodies. What sort of things would be a good upgrade for my 4G61T? I've heard the head is different/better, but I can't really figure out where that info is, lol. Is the ecu any good?

Yeah, I'm a doof. A basic search here got me the info, lol. NEWB MISTAKE!

I'm tempted to grab the whole 4G67 w/tranny, since I expect my colt will need an engine eventually, and I'd like to do things a bit differently :).

Grab my motor when that happens. Better yet, get it now so you can build it over the winter. Put it in either car you still have when the snow melts.

4g67 head will keep the same compression, but I'm thinking the ultimate combination would be the 4g61/Cyclone epoxied to match the head intake ports, and a TD05 turbo.

Either way, grab that head. What markings are on the side? It should have large intake and exhaust ports like a 1G.

Transmission is a KM206 likely, just like the 4g61 NA C60 mirage/summit GS sedan. Not sure how axles from a turbo fit up, or how the step or no step on the trans mount will be. Take a few celly pics if you go back. Also if the bottom of the bellhousing, 5th gear cover in the wheel well, and the trans code plate on the top of the bellhousing. That will tell us all the trans info in one shot.

I'll have both cars, the colt will be replacing the aspire as the DD, and the 78 will be the project ;).

It could be good to have that head as a backup, and it would be an easy job to pull it. I'll look into it next time I'm up there.

The ecu's changed in 95 and they're completely different than the 1g dsm's. If its a 92-94 and eprom I'd grab it if its cheap, guys are adding the necessary parts to use them on turbo cars now. Also since its a 1.8 it'll have the larger 60mm throttle body, the 1.6 elantras are slightly smaller. If it has the smooth black valve cover they usually fetch $40 + on ebay unless you plan to keep it for yourself. Be sure to get the special mounting hardware for it too. The engine mounts (except for the trans) are all the same as the turbo colt/mirage stuff so they'd be nice for spares or a swap in a 1.5 csm. That's about it I believe.

The 1.8 would be a good candidate for boring out a 2.0.

My old 2g turbo car came with a km206. That one had equal length shafts too. I'm using those same axles on my swapped 91 with a km210/f5m31 and will soon be using them with a w5m33. (Minus the g32b specific intermediate shaft.)

(Edit) I would not recommend a km206 tranny, unless you where planning on keeping it with a 11/13g or 14b. These trannys are probably harder to find now compared to a turbo fwd dsm one (km215/f5m33).

Hmm, the throttle body might be a neat score, and it is a black smoothie valve cover. I'm definitely tempted by the head, but I've already put some time and effort into my 1.6 (valve stem seals, etc), so it would be a backup.

I'll have to check the ecu, not sure which year it is. If it's eprom, it's coming home no matter what :).

The elantra arms widen the stance just a little, I think about 3/8". Not sure if they bolt up like the turbo colt/mirage arms or not.

Hmm, the spammer reminded me that I should post that I picked up the 1.8 head. If anything, I now have a bunch of spare 90-esque parts, since the elantra seems to use that style. A CAS with the long pigtail, 4-pin coil plug, 90-style igniter plug, etc. The throttle body is completely seized shut though, which is a bummer :(.
