Does anybody know where I can get new control arms for the 89 1.6L Turbo cars? I asked JNZ Tuning if they could get them and the reply was that Mitsubishi does not make them anymore and that they are no longer available for purchase.

Is there a control arm from another car that would swap over and work with the 1.6L sway bar?

They use the same control arms as the 1.5. The only difference when using the turbo's sway bar is the end links, they aren't the same as the 1.5's. Yes, you can use the 1.6's sway bar end links with 1.5 control arms.

^Are you positive? I thought the turbo cars used a different rear bushing and bracket unless that part swaps over.

The two arms ARE different between the turbo and non turbo cars. The difference that I know of is in the sway bar end link. The bracket for the link to connect to on the arms are totally different between the cars.

AFAIK the 1.5 and 1.6 control arms are different at the rear bushing, one simply slips into the bushing while the other is threaded on the end and has a large nut to hold the bushing on, that's what I gathered from looking at my gt turbo and my 91 1.5 car. I think the turbo car had the threaded one, but it was years ago that I looked

They are the same in the way the sway bar can connect. I am running a 1.6 sway bar (22mm) on my 1.5 control arms. Unbolt the sway bar end links and use the correct turbo end link. It WILL work.

C52a, C53a, J1 Elantra 92-94.5~ are all different but an be made to work on a C50 series hatchback. As for the Sedan (C62a territory) if the base model equipped 1.5l and 1.6l NA share the same control arm part numbers as the C52/53a, then the Elantra arm will swap in there too, but may require a different rear bushing, and will put the balljoints way out, causing lots of negative camber and attachment issues based upon the threads I hopefully recall with some clarity. Rear bushings between the C52a 1.5l and the C53a 1.6l TC are different as are the actual control arms; turbo arms are somewhat beefier from what I remember.

What is wrong with the original control arms on the car now?

Bent, misaligned? Corroded? Bushings worn out?
Ball joints bad? Press fit or circlip, are the holes enlarged too much to retain the ball joints?

The bushings are 23 years old, its time to be replaced.

I will check to see if anybody has new or rebuilt 1.5L control arms.

My point was that they ARE different, not that they wouldn't work. Thanks for letting me know you are using the 1.5L arms with the turbo sway bar.

I asked my Mitsu dealer about this about 2 weeks ago, he said he could get the left one from Japan, but the right one was NLA, the left one could be on order for an unknown amount of time.

I ended up buying superpro bushings for mine and new Moog ball joints. I'm still waiting for it all to get here...

Was not your original question whether or not the sway bar would work with the 1.5 arms?

I've got used control arms for C53 / C58

But I know, I took long time ago a C53 control arm in a C52 and it works.

iirc the swaybar endlink is similar to DSM stuff, but it was loooong ago that I remember reading anything about it.

Yes, you can use a 1g FWD Turbo end link on the 1.6L control arm. That is what I have on mine now.

Nobody else has any info on where to get new or remanufactured 1.5L or 1.6L control arms at?

Wish I could be helpful here....had the same problem, but I never tried test fitting a 1.5 control arm. I ended up using the Elantra control arms instead. With the Elantra control arms, everything bolts up like it should....plus the sway bar links are identical to the c53a 1.6 setup, so the same principal applies. You end up with a little negative camber in doing so.
