The new twist being I DID do a search of the site :). No real clarification being found though. I cannot remember my damn NABR password so I cannot access the forums right now to do a quick check there :(.

I am going to be doing the exhaust soon, and am wondering about the downpipe/exhuast issue. I see 600hp cars running the 3" exhaust and I wonder to myself if my lowly 300(crank, hopefully)hp would need such a big exhaust. I do not know what way to go. I have currently the stock 1g dp and flex running into my stock 4G15 cat and piping so anything will be an upgrade for me, but I want the most power I can get this summer. Unfortunately I have to run a cat (stupid roadside emissions checks) so I am doubtful of the 2.5" setup, but is the 3" going to be too loud? Hmmm.

Whatever I run, it will be completely in the stock location, and will include resonator and big muffler as well as the cat. I HATE a droney car. I believe my new GF would too....;).

Anyone have an opinion? Or could someone do a search on NABR for me and post something here? That would be great! :). Thanks!

On my 20g I noticed a massive decrease in boost recovery time between shifts and all around better performance when I went from a 2.5" press-bent to a 3" mandrel bent.

The car was transformed on the street as well. It went from being a little laggy to zero lag. Keep in mind this is on a bone stock motor with cams.

I used the Extreme 2G FWD 3" DP. Buschur has one available now also.

Good luck!

IMHO a 3" DP with 2.5 catback would work good for your 2.0. I'm happy with the 2.5 on my 1.6. Also with the 2.5 there is no clearance issues. My car runs cat and dynomax muffler in stock location with no resonater=no noise at all(quiet exhaust means being able to hear my engine, I like it that way).

Sweet! Thanks for the info guys! It tells me what I needed/wanted to hear :). Looks like I am going to splurge and go with the 3"DP (with an open wastegate dump, the only comprimise I will make in my quiet car philosophy ;)), 3" cat, 3" resonator, and 3" muffler, all in the stock spots. I am taking no chances with noise so that is why I am adding the resonator...If it is too restrictive then I will just remove it :). This is going to cost me a bit of $$$, but it is worth it :D.

Thanks again!

It will be worth it if you are thinking of the long term. I originally had the 2.5 DP to 3" and it was fine until I wanted more.

Here's my exact setup:

Extreme 02 Housing w/ Tial 40mm wastegate dumped to atmosphere
(The 02 mounted dump is much better sounding than the exh. manifold dump. I can hardly even hear mine.)
3" Mandrel SS downpipe (extreme motorsports)
3" Dynomax Magnum bullet muffler 18" long Jegs P/N 289-24219
3" Dynomax Ultra-flow round muffler (where cat once was) P/N 289-17296
3" 90 degree mandrel bend from JC whitney.
3" straight piping to side exit.
2 Stainless band clamps. (These kick ass)

It looks like this.

 Isn't it funny! Both mirages are set up this way. I've never had anyone notice this setup at all. It might as well be invisible. Down with shiny pipes!!

I have a similar setup, although I didn't paint mine black and mine is angled back more towards the rear tire.

One problem I have with mine is that it bangs on the bottom of the car when I'm turning aggressively. I was thinking of welding a hanger to the chassis straight to pipe. Is there a problem doing this?

Well, that's the same way I would do mine....

However since [at this time] my car will be mostly 90% drag..

My D/P and Wastgate dump pipes will both dump B4 the front tire.

Well, it's hard to describe over a bulletin board :D

I love the sound. It's nice and smooth at cruise speeds and nice and loud at WOT, but not too loud. It all comes down to your personal preference.

Try watching some of the recent videos from my site if you want to hear it.

Do you get any ground clearance issues running a 3" exhaust under the axle?? :-? Can those pictues be a little bigger and with more light?

I had 3 people in the car the other night and the only problem I was having was the drivers rear tire rubbing on the fender lip on WOT runs. Looks like if I bend that little lip up the tire should clear it. The exhaust never dragged or hit. Will try to get some pics soon, but the exhaust has a good fist and a half clearance to the ground or so.
