[b:wrarxrgk]Mirage 5-speed into a 1.5L automatic[/b:wrarxrgk]
I began researching and seeking a transmission in late August 1999.

A few weeks before hand I located and installed the clutch pedal/bracket (90 Summit), reservoir and hard lines (91 Eclipse) and linkages (88 Colt H/B). Time consuming and tough without the right tools. All the indented panels in the firewall are ready for you to chop them out. The hole where the linkages go through the firewall is by far the hardest, unless you want to rip out the ENTIRE dash and heater core assembly. I found punching a screwdriver through the metal and working from there worked out well. Everything aside, the pre-install worked out great.

Anyway, the yard was asking $200 for the KM-210 transmission. I said I'd think about it. A few weeks later I found a donor 1990 Colt H/B (KM-201 tranny) and began my work with a friend.

1.) Removal of air can, hoses, wires, etc.
2.) Removing transmission to engine bolts and frame to tranny bolts.
(The car was in a position in which we couldn't take the tires off.)
3.) Jacking up right side of engine
4.) Removal of release cylinder/linkages from tranny + draining of tranny.
5.) Separating transmission from engine.
6.) Pulling input shaft out of engine. (Pain in the a, we used a 20' metal pole to pry the engine away from the tranny, on the junkyard car. Not the best way, but it got the job done.)
7.) The halfshafts worked the same way
8.) The transmission was now out, although the less and less it looked like it was a good one. Maybe the car was in the salvage yard because of the transmission.
Total Cost: About $90 transmission
$40 Misc Parts.

After install in my vehicle and a test run, 1st, 2nd, 3rd gears all made a not-too-good sounding whine in motion. 4th gear was nonexistent and 5th gear you had to hold in.

Over the next few days I completely lose 5th gear and things are getting worse. Back to the salvage yard I go. They check the computer for a replacement, closest is a few states away and a few hundred dollars more!

I found a transmission at the original yard I was at for cheap, out of a 90 Accent. (KM-201). I returned the bad tranny for a credit (to which I bought my 14" wheels) and the transmission still works great.

Either one of these transmissions bolt up to the 1.5L chassis with the Mirage turbo transmission mounts.
