Alright, I searched and nothing came up. I have a 1.5 L Colt and I'm soon going to be doing a swap in it. I would like to upgrade the brakes all around and I was wondering if anyone has done drum to disc rear conversion. Now what would I need to do this? I could probably just use the parts off of a Colt GT, but the only thing is, that the parts are so hard to find. I don't want to even know what the dealer would charge. Is there another more common car I could swap parts with??? Did any non turbo colts have 4 wheel discs???? Somebody please help.

I'm doing the conversion right now your best bet is to swap the entire rear axle (although you can just swap the hubs and seal etc its a big pain in the butt.) I am told 89 turbos and 89-90 1.6L sedans came with rear discs. If yuo swap the rar axlie there is 5 bolts to put it in (1 in each side of the trailinag arm 1for each strut tower and 1 for the Panhard rod. After that its just hooking up brake lines. :) And if your looking for a disc rear axle I know someone who has one its missing some parts but their the easy one to find all the hard ones are there PM me and I'll give you his contact info. If you need pics or anything let me know.

I'm lucky enough to have found someone parting out a GT and I claimed all the brake parts.... gunna cost me $100.

I also may nab the power steering rack because it in theory is better than the GL flavor.

Is there a difference between the non turbo master cylinder and the 4 wheel disc brake master cylinder? Has anyone attempted to upgrade their master cylinder on their nonturbo? Also does anyone else sell upgraded brake lines, I looked on DSS and they didn't list them.

The MC is the same just the propotioning valve that goes to the back is different after doing further research neither is a Talon MC looks like one that is FOR SURE Compatible is a Dodge Stealth MC it is 1" for NON ABS and 1" 1/16 for ABS and Colt Vista is 15/16" just haven't confirmed that unit yet as compatible... The talon will work the lines just have to be moved around its just plain in convienient...

The master cylinder and proportioning valves are different from a disc-disc setup to a disc-drum setup. Drum brakes require a residual line pressure bleeder to stop the drum shoes welding themselves to the drum when you stop after heavy braking. So you'll need to swap that out as well.

Autospeed have an article with some info:

do you have any problems with bumpsteer like everyone else says you will? I'm sorry to get off of the rear brake conversion talk, but I want to do fronts too.

The bumpsteer problem isnt that bad really. You're not going to swerve off the road whenever you hit a bump. It's nothing i cant handle. The steering is a little quicker since the steering arm on the spindle is shorter tho. Keep than in mind when you have to do a sudden maneuver cause u might over steer.

my setup is from a 91 talon by the way.

Actually I hardly have any bumpsteer at all. Look in the general talk section about 4 to 5 lug conversion. Theres a huge argument about the conversion. $o2
