Post subject:  I need traction!!!

I took my car around a small course set up with cones. Everytime I got to a straight away where I had all the space in the world to go as fast as I needed the wheels would just spin till I got to the next turn. At the turn I had more problems. I basically wasn't allowed to hit the gas other wise I would just plow into the corner no mater how fast I was going. I probably had one of the fastest cars there, but I did horrible due to my traction issue. I have strut bars, 17"s wrapped with BFG KDW's (I should probably go with a different tire :-? ) , a quaife, GC coil over kit, and koni yellows all around. What more do I need without going AWD :ANAL: Could my suspention be too stiff? I have 400lbs springs

Turn down the boost really. If it's that tight of a course, all the power in the world won't help you if you can't put it down.

Softening the suspension might help with traction too.

No disrespect but as hard as it may sound you (we) have to learn to apply the gas and not just tromp it. Roll on and roll off the gas pedal, learn to feel the car and feed it throttle.

Just because your fast in a straight line, doesnt mean your fast around a corner.

But hey what do I know, I drive a miata now.

My boost is only set at 12psi and if I feather the gas pedal any less I might as well have launched my car then let it roll around the track till I get to the end

Would 245/35/17 fit? I'm sure that would help a little

17's will typically have a stiffer sidewall than 15's thus not allowing as much flex and a smaller contact patch. I would stick with something smaller than a 17 for straight line traction.

The diameter of the tire has nothing to do with how stiff the sidewall is, it's all about the design of the tire and the profile of the tire. A smaller profile (35, 40, 45 series) will generally be stiffer, but you can have that sidewall profile in any diameter tire. If you're into straight-line stuff you want sidewall flex to get traction. If you're into taking turns then you want as stiff a sidewall as possible. I wouldn't wanna take drag radials autocrossing, and I wouldn't wanna take DOT-legal road-racing tires to the drag strip.

Well I have 225/50/15 drag radials. For the track would 245/35/17 fit?
