Hey guys, its been a little while since I've been on here, the Summit is just my DD and my Talon is the project so I don't have much to say. But now the summit is starting to show its wear and I'm trying to decide whether or not its worth pouring money into. Although in the future I still have dreams of swapping in the 4G63 so part of me wants to keep it up a little. So far the front calipers are just about shot and I need to replace those but thats another story, the front struts are absolutely gone and I'm sure the rears are on their way out. I decided to check out the wonderful world of ebay for some new struts for the 93 Summit and came up with these wonderfully cheap Gabriel struts. The price fits me like a glove but searching on here didn't yield me any info on if these are any good. Anyone have any experience, hearsay, rumors, or otherwise about these el cheapo's? I'm not looking for this thing to handle through the twisties or pull great 60fts. so all I really want is to save my butt from the bumps for the next year or two (engine has 200,000 miles on her, but I've heard they last upwards of 300,000 and she spins like a top so I'm not too worried about her giving up on me). Let me know, thanks

I'm not fond of Gabriel Struts. I'd go KYB before Gabriel any day of the week. Gabriels are just cheap aftermarket struts, nothing special about them.

Thanks for the input, any reasons why your not fond of them? I'm assuming they are nowhere near the quality of the KYB's but I'm looking at a third of the price for them. I guess what I want to know is has anyone experience problems with them: improper fitment, very soft as such to give no real support (ie. bottoming out easily), blow outs, wear out very quickly, etc...

I'm sure they have no problems with fitment, I can't imagine that they would. They just aren't very high-performance. I know you said you don't want anything hardcore, but even the OE-replacement KYB GR2's have a nice firm ride compared to stock. I've never tried Gabriel's, nor do I really know anyone who has, but I do work in the auto-parts industry and none of my bosses are very fond of Gabriel. We've always made it a point to sell nothing but KYB mostly because KYB is the OEM manufacter for a lot of cars and their quality is very good.

Considering the negative feedback so far, I might just replace the fronts and wait until I can afford to replace the rears as well (with KYB GR2's that is). Thanks and if anyone else wants to chime in feel free.

I had gabriel's on the rear and just replaced them after approx. 6,000 miles. I regretted using them. Oh yeah, went with Gr-2's.
