Just got back from the j.y. The tie-rods do mount correctly. I'll do a quick comparison tonight to see if all of the holes are going to line up. Hopefully I'll get a chance to install it one night this week.

Okay, quick review of what's going on.

If you've ever tried to replace the front rotors on the car, you'll see that it's not an easy DIY job. You can do it, but it's a real pain. You have to remove the hub from the steering knuckle to get the rotors off. This requires, either a press or a really big hammer. It also means that you should replace the bearings every time that you do a rotor swap.

On top of that, switching to larger brake rotors is rather difficult. No one makes a kit that will just bolt on, and if you want them bad enough you have to have them custom made. That's expensive too.

A few people have used the Galant VR4 steering knuckles and hubs. This is probably fine for many people. The problem I have is that those hubs mount the tie-rod ends differently then ours AND they give the car about 1.5 degrees of positive camber. The positive camber is counter-productive to making the car handle well and the reverse tie-rod ends can "potentially" cause bumpsteer problems. Not something that I want to find out about while trying to stop from 130mph at the local track. But it's probably not a big deal to people who don't see those speeds. It might not even be that big of a problem anyway if you lower the car enough. Again, it's just not something I want to find out about the hard way.

So, a few of us have been searching for a replacement steering knuckle/hub that will allow DIY rotor changes and not screw with the alignment (at least in a negative way). Another advantage would be the potential for larger brakes.

when i replaced the tranny... so you dont muck the alignment... just undo the tierod bolts from the lower a-arm(im a chevy truck boy so bear w/me)... and you will have no problems... plus i didin't find it to be a hard job after rebuilding my c-10's frontend ALL BY MY SELF mind you...

yeah, you should be able to swap trannies without screwing with the alignment. I wouldn't remove the tie-rod ends. Just unbolt the top of the steering knuckle from the shocks.

when i did my tranny swap all i had to do was undo the tie rod bolts. and remove the half shafts. it was easy and my steering was fine. you have to undo the tie rod bolts you can turn the wheels in and unbolt the half shaft. I reccomend un bolting the half shaft when the car is still on the ground, i leanred the hard way.
