Okay fellas.

Here's the lowdown.

Got my 2.3 liter motor finished.

We're installing a 2.4 in the AWD colt, so I'm going to install the 2.3 into my 92 GVR4. I'm not worried about light to light or even the 1/4 mile.
I'm looking for top end power.

The turbo I had in mind is a

Garret T70.
0.70 A/R compressor housing.
Super 70 Trim compressor wheel
T3 with .070 A/R Exhaust

Please give me the pluses and minuses of this thing !

Thanks :D

Well you know I'm all about huge turbos so I'm diggin the setup. I know a setup that is similar to what you want to run but in a 1g AWD. 2.4 stroker with a PTE67 put down 701 to the wheels. Ran 11.0s @ 142 or something like that while breaking the center diff. If you don't plan on revving past 8k then the 2.4L should be a good setup, but I recommend something thats a little more docile on the street if you are gonna roam at night for some prey. I recommend a FP3575 if you want some major topend but ball bearing performance for the street. The guy's PTE67 wasn't spooling til around 5K rpm. Basically 5k-8k powerband. I think you would really like the FP though, better response.

Don't waste your money on ball bearing shit. I am personally not a fan of the T70 although it has put down power. I say look into a 71mm turbo from precision using the GTQ turbine wheel. or if you are looking for something a lil smaller how about a GT4088?

thats true the T70 ON my race car likes to surge around 27 psi but when I took it past 32 psi it started to sound reall clean, but the compressor map on a T70 is not the greatest and these turbos are known to surge, but I would not suggest it for the street, a 72 is a better option in my book, it has nicer smoother maps as far as the efficiency curves go

how about an fp red on you 2.3stroker with fp3 cams? (they are designed for strokers and available if you call them) should be a hoss on the street.

FP reds are nice but not 1400 dollar nice..... hell for that money he can have a manifold and a gt42 for his car I think he will be better off with some garrett turbo upwards for a t70 I think that he should go with some PTE turbo personally, large/mid frame turbos, since it is for top speed, who cares if it spools at 6000 rpm, just my two cents

t72 has a much better surge line than a t70, the fp3575 is not a ball bearing but a different way to go, the best is a gt42BB, super badass that can make up over 50+ psi. or a HKS T51R SPLBB, almost the same thing.
As soon as I can afford it I'll have a 2.4 with one of the last 2. and take the t3t4 off the talon and put it on the gtir.

I agree about the Red, you can get a lot more turbo for $1400 than the Red. Barnes is right that the 3575 isn't BB, my fault, but it got me thinking about my setup. I'm going with a large standard bearing turbo to help reduce spoolup response and create a smoother transition into boost so I don't spin throughtout my entire powerband. Even thought you will be AWD, you may want to go the same direction. I wouldn't think about something that doesn't hit full boost until 5700k rpms because what good is a 2k rpm powerband? Personally, I would either go with an FP3575 or probably a PTE67. I'm just trying to figure out how much more you might spin using a BB turbo. To be honest, no one has ever done what are you attempting so you are gonna be the guinea pig :D .

when you get into turbos that big spool up is really slow anyway, I think there was an evo with a T51R SPLBB that made like 700hp, with a 2.3L and even with the ball bearing it still didn't spool up until 5500rpm. You could run a smaller turbo like a sc61, sc63 a bullseye hx40 or a garrett gt40 and still make 650-700+ hp and would come in sooner. What are you tring to do? give me some goals, more info! If you are looking just for BIG hp the first 2 turbos in the other thread would be your best bet, if you are tring to go fast on pump, or race gas, is it a drag only setup, if you want the biggest turbo on a dsm I have a holset that has a 5" compressor wheel and a 6-7" inlet and a 5" exhaust outlet, should be good up to 1400-1600hp, and you would get full boost at about 14000rpm off bottle!

Ball Bearing turbos are only useful because they can live a longer life than a standard bearing turbo. The spool difference is minute at best. I have seen dyno charts from Don Polk comparing his race turbo (ball bearing T72) as opposed to his back up turbo (non ball bearing T72) and the maps overlayed perfect. No difference in spool up.

i have a buddy running a magnus stroker....he runs a garrett 56 trim (GT40) .63 a/r with stage 5 turbine wheel

he made 500awhp on pump and 565 on race gas with a very nice powerband that left him tractionless with 4 245s all spinning

Thanks for ALL your helpful responses!
See, my daily commute takes me from just outside the Capitol beltway
to downtown Arlington, VA every day. That's roughly a 70 mile trip daily. I'm not into wanting to spank Honduhs anymore. Been there, done that. I'm NOT gong to street race the thing either.
Been there done that too. I want the car to remain docile for the most part in the lower RPM band anyhow.

HOWEVER, If I'm in the mood to lay the smackdown on a
Porsche, Z06, R1, or M3, I want to be able to without much work.

I contacted PTE yesterday evening, and one of the guys did say and even
he recommended what some of you guys recommended, the PT67

I mean... how much HP can I REALLLLY make before enough is enough
