yeah, pro rally would have the biggest costs associated with it, and prolly the least amount of entrants too... hmmm, think i might check around at various local government offices to see what i would need to start on of these things up... after the colt is finished of course

hmmmm, just found a place that rally crosses about an hour and a half from here... what's a cheap car (like less than 2 grand, maybe 5k max) that i would be able to rally, and has at least a LITTLE bit of an aftermarket and is preferably awd? i was looking at some scoobydoos, but is there anything else? i'd like to keep the engine stock and just do some suspension modifications.

CA has tons of those events. We run a series that includes 5 or 6 lcoations, 2-4 races per location. Basically, you can rally cross an entire season out here and compete almost every weekend.

I am a driving instructor at an event this weekend in so-cal. Entry is cheap and it is a ton of fun. Colts do pretty well. I took a 1.5L colt with street tires and turned fastest 2wd time of the day.

SCCA has only dropped pro-rally. They are still the sanctioning body of rally cross and rally sprint.

Chris
your lucky!!!!

thanks for clarifying whats up with scca - i was confused
if i would ever build a track - do you know what is involved - in hosting one of these events

Colt rally cars. I still imagine importing a late 90s Colt like the one linked to below to build into a AWD turbo monster. Then I remember that a Subaru is such a better choice. Look for a AWD 2.2L Impreza. My friend Mark has won 10 straight dirt rallycross events in Colorado. If you decide on the Colt though I ran a 84 Turbo Colt for about a year. Just sold it in fact. Anyhow, if you have any questions send me an email to grantsubaru@yahoo.com.
Later,
Grant
