I'm researching suspension setups for the colt, Ive read all the previous posts for suspension setups but cant find anything specific to my needs. It seems that there are really only two options, buy a ground control coilover kit for a 1g fwd talon with koni adjustables and eibach 300F 250R lbs springs. or Supposedly Diamond Star Specialtys makes a colt specific kit. in anycase i want adjustable shocks so from what ive heard Koni is the only way to go. I am wanting to run the slush series ( autocross in the winter ) and it starts in a month, I need to order my suspension now so ill have time to install and sort out any issues before the first race,

I would really like to hear some input from members who actually race there cars in autocross or on the track, ie. what handling characteristics does the car have with your setup (shock settings, spring weight/length, camber,) does it over/under steer.

Thanks, any input is greatly appreciated.

beserko would be the one to ask,

i am going to guess at his response

ground controls, with konis and eibach springs.

What kind of tires are you going to be using?

If streets, get the mirage koni's with 200-250lb springs all around same rate at each end.

If using race tires, go with 250-300lb springs, same rate at each end.

"Mirage Koni's" specific to our car? wow kinda nice, I know there adjustable but how and whare is the nob for adjusting, now my question would be wether to get GC coilover kit or DSS kit, what are the differences
and if you get the GC kit for the 1G do you have to modify it in any way to fit the mirage specific koni's?

Thanks.

It's all down to personal preference really. For an autocross I'd probably go with jmauld's setup for the most part. My personal preference has always been to have the rear springs stiffer. For a dedicated road racer I'd go with 400 up front and 600 or so in the rear. That's on a bumpy corse too. FWD cars tend to have better turn in with stiffer rears especially considering our cars don't have rear swaybars. Anything above 500 lbs and the Koni's will have to be re-valved for the siffer springs.

That sounds really stiff 600 for the rear 400 for the front, im thinking 350 front 400 rear. and actually are cars do come with rear sway bars, this is from the technical review section on this site.

SUSPENSION:
Front....Independant strut located by a control arm, coil springs, anti-roll-bar
Rear....rigid axle integral with two trailing arms, Panhard rod, coil springs, anti-roll bar

you may be right, if i want heavier i can just put the backs in the front and order new backs, thats if i get 350/400. I'm not quite sure how the car will respond under autocrossing conditions with real suspension, I only know stock, and its not impressive at all. thanks for all the input.

There is a rear swaybar inside your axle. That's why you shouldn't add another one.

I was wondering what everyone thinks about GAB struts? I have adjustable GAB struts on my colt and you guys are always talking about koni's. Anyone ever have GAB's? There pretty rock solid, with eibach sportlines they make my spare tire go flying over dumps.

GABS were ideal for AWD DSM's that did rally. They're extremely stiff and handle impact from airtime like a champ. However, they're not made anymore and GAB doesn't import to the US. They've also changed their focus to mainly supporting drifting.

I must say i'm very happy with them, i've been in a TSI FWD with the koni combo and it wasn't as hard as my colt. I just hope when it comes to rebuidl time i wont be stuck with no one being able to rebuild them.

From what I know KYBs are not rebuildable.
