Well if you remove the whole system (get the lines flushed/drained at a professional A/C repair shop) you can gain from the bag of weight that the whole system tips the scales at.
I myself never had the A/C but I decided the cut the pulley at the crank (the one groove one for the A/C v-belt) so that it was just a spacer disk to keep the bolts that hold the pulleys together happy!
Less rotating mass equals less effort I figure. I might not have gained much but I wanted to do this as these little engines really zoom on the highway, and the least amount of weight may help spool up/rev up (as it were for a 4g15 n/a
)Hey at the least, assuming you can get a grinder, it will cost you under ten dollars to cut the pulley, the A/C fluid evacuation will be shop labor rated, but if you don't really need it, just roll down the windows and drive faster. Or install one of the gimmick fans that attach to the cigarette lighter.
