on my 92 1.5L mirage, I have 117k miles. the timing belt was changed at 66k miles and seven years ago. I know 60k intervals are standard but how often do you guys change it? I'm easy on the engine with no WOT. Just curious cuz I have a friend with a 96 corolla 1.6 L, and he's at 104k miles. never changed his timing belt at all! He drives WOT all the time! does anyone think if I take a look at the belt and if there is no cracks, I should be good for awhile?

Working in a salvage yard, i saw that most cars blow the belt if not changed at around 50k over the reccomended interval. Driving styleand other factors can affect that however. Definitely check for signs of dryness and cracking! That doesnt mean your not in need of a replacement if it looks fine. Ive seen decent looking belts snap too. I would change based on this equation:
New timing belt=2hours work$45.00 in parts OR
Snaped belt= $400.00 in used motor and associated down time and unforseen headaches.
