Post subject:  Tach Question (other)

I'm new here and I found this site after looking around for information on the engine in my Summit. My question is basicly, "Does anyone have a clue why my tach won't work?", The positive is hooked into the cigarette lighter, negative is a chassis ground, and the pickup is at the 2 wire thing by the intake (which I've seen someone else do in another tach post). The light comes on in the tach when the dash lights/headlights are turned on (the wire is hooked to the cigarette lighter light) and I just re-checked the ground/power today and it's all good, even the 12v pulse@#1 cylinder coming off the 2 wire thing is good, it's set to 4 cylinder on the back also, anyone have a clue?

I don't mean to steal anyone else's picture but it's hooked up exactly like this:

When I tested (using +/- battery and the line it's hooked up to at the moment) it before installing, it worked fine.

If anyone has a cluster w/tach I would be grateful if I could get it (as long as it isn't hundreds of dollars). I always found that strange, it's a manual from the factory and there's no tach.

did you try to grab the signal from the other side of the tach filter?

it could have gone bad.

What wire off the distributer? I don't see any other wires by my dist. except for one that I looked up to be a ground. It's round with 4 connections (for the plugs) and one post type thing that has a rubber cover over it. I haven't seen any other kinds of wires in my service manual either, if there is, please let me know which one, I really want to get this thing working. It's so annoying to have it there and know it's hooked up but it's not working, like it's mocking me. :( lol

Could you post a picture of it so I can see where to hook it up? Also, are you using the same computer that would be in my 1991 summit with the 12v 4g15?
