i'd like to know if i can change my coil for a junk yard one that is more powerfull

YES! :D
There's a sticky in the 4G15 section, which leads to a link that illustrates the procedure of installing a Saab Turbo coil.

the coil for my 4G15 is in the distributer so I have no clue how you guys change the coil cause the pics in the sticky link dont work

I would surmise (as I am in the same boat - distributor on head side) that if the cap could be modified to let a plug wire in the terminal that feeds the rotor and cap, then you could install a better coil setup of something like a MSD or Crane digital ignition HI-6 (or the import variety).

Only problem I can see here would be getting the signal to the spark managment system from the distributor to effectively bypass the internals of the distributor that are holding us back a little (ie maximum voltage and amperage to the spark chain).

What do you think Eth?

I worry about the capacitances and impedances. If they don't match the coil, things may go wrong.
Also I'm afraid of using a larger coil w/ the stock transistor. I dunno how much power it can handle.

Edit: Create a coil-on-plug setup.
Each coil has its own power transistor. The transistors are triggered by a low voltage output fed from the distributor.
Will look PIMP! 8)

Well maybe a setup of coils like the ones used on the new hemi's would work..... mmmmmm HEMI

To borrow a page from the MX6/Probe folks...

You need to tap into the coil feed and install an external coil in the cap, that is correct. You also need to install a new external power transistor (the MX6 guys recommend a 3055 NPN transistor for their cars) which the ECU will use to trigger the new external coil.

what about using a separate ignitor that can handle the loads

on rx-7's we so this and run big coils

GM HEI's are popular for this

the 2N3055 transistor is perfectly suited for high power applications. Also, it's inexpensive and readily available. 8)
Pumaproton had a schematic around IIRC.

Okay so we are looking at this right now....

Stock distributor mounted at side of head (12V yes, 8V ? did they get it too?)

Tap into cap for hookup of external coil
- How do we attach our feed from the new external coil to the terminal that supplies the spark to the outer terminals in the cap?

Hookup applicable transistor to fire the coil(s)
- I guess a schematic would really help here.

Have I got this right so far?

has anyone tried using a 8v dizzy ona 12v head?

The distibutors are totally different between the 8v and 12v they won't fit..
