i got a 1993 dodge colt. this morning on the way to school, i hear a few "clicks" coming from the dash, down inside, and then the car stalled out. the car has had a rough idle for the past several days, almost sounds like its missing... and the car is really sputtery on accel and decell. think my computer is gone. can i just use the computer from my parts car(a 1993 plymouth colt, same drivetrain setup)? do you thing the computer is the problem? |

As long as the ECUs are of the same family, yes you can. |

Notice that you need mods slow_93_1.5, Check this link for interchange stuff..... http://www.4g61t.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7480 Your easiest options if you don't want a direct drop in motor swap and the time associated/tools needed to pull this off, are to open up the restrictive exhaust system at the muffler and open the intake. TB is a good next step. If you do things one at a time, then you won't get too lost if something goes wrong. If you need more info, PM me or do a good search, there is TONS of info in the back posts on stuff to do to these cars, even though you have the newer body style your engine stuff and mechanicals are still in the same ballpark. |

ookay, so after driving the car around all day, the computer is now completely gone and the car cannot hardly start, so i'll just swap them tomorrow... where are they too in these cars? i think i may have seen it up under the passenger side of the dash infront of the door? as for the mods, i think as soon as i get this fixed i am gonna try to sell the car, it is just causeing me way too much trouble, every couple of days something else brakes... |

i feel your pain......... i thought it was just me who thought that these cars had a mind of their own... they seem to run fine for about a week and then they decide its time to break down again and see how much it will cost their owners |

My car was very lemon like when I bought it I swapped the motor/tranny for JDM and rebuilt the ECU and really since then the car has been wicked reliable the rest of the money I've put into the car has been upgrades or maintanence... I really don't count tie rod ends and such as repairs just maintanence when you have 310k on the car. I really have put a cent into the car for the last 1.5 years besides some maintanence parts and all of that has been under $250 the rest is upgrades (we won't talk about figures I've invested in that) |
