Anybody have any ideas on what can be done to the 1.5? Nothin' fancy, just looking for the easy stuff... I like the way it revs; the flywheel is way too heavy though and it needs a bit more bottom end torque.

Well cheap stuff for the 1.5 is fixing up the intake. (K & N and putting duct tape of the hole in the MAF so it registers more air going through the MAF sensor and opening up the can so more air can com through.) Something else I was looking at was the air inlet behind the corner lense I may end up removing that air chamber and putting a larger straight pipe from behind the corner lense (sort of like ram air but not really) also having the beamer E series headlights in there is a small gap between them and the corner lense a bit more air will get back there.... The MAF mod is free and will pick up more low/mid torque...

Another thing which is great also is to advance the timing by rotating a FEW degrees the distributor counterclockwise. But i suggest not to run in very hight temp in these setup and to run high octan level gasoline. I was also adding octane booster, this is to avoid the engine from pigning.

Be careful, you dont want the engine to pign a low rpm, when its at WOT, this can be very armful for your engine. pigning is always bad, very bad.

If this setup is correctly done whith the above modification from Berserko you'll be an happy Camper!

It's about the size of a wine cork, right underneath the honeycomb.

I taped that hole up and had no effect whatsoever.

Reddevil:

How long ago did you do the mod? it takes a couple days for your ECU to learn the effect of your changes...

Beserko: I'm assuming you've noticed improvments also! I tried it after hearing from it on a diff board and the results were great, but for some reason some peoples car will idle ruff, mine doesn't, don't know if the K&N has any play there or not.. Anyways, we were bored one sunday night and decided to do a little beater racing and I lost to a 92 cavalier RS Auto, next week after plugging the hole I had 4 lengths on him easily, So i find huge increases in the lower end, but my gas mileage has gone to shit

[b:1pqu5j1e]colt45[/b:1pqu5j1e] Do you have a K&N filter in your car?I do and I'm not sure if that will make it run better/worse.

Yes, and it should make it run better, It allows more and smoother flow then OEM filters

Having a K & N has made more mid RPM torque in the car but low end (sub 2500 RPM) I think might be a bit weaker (could be just an illusion I don't know). After the car hits 2500 RPM I can feel it pull a bit harder for sure. I like the sound the intake makes after it goes over 5500 RPM :)
