Post subject:  4G37/4G63 SOHC: Possible upgrades for 4G15 ECU

Hey guys, kjmerkel69 had that fantastic idea of using a 4G37 ECU as an upgrade for the 4G15 ECU. This makes perfectly sense, as the 4G37 has bigger injectors, so power upgrades are more or less within ECU specs (that is, w/ all injectors and sensors swapped). Another plus is the sheer simplicity, as it looks like the ECUs are electrically absolutely the same meaning plug 'n drive and are rather cheap.
Can anybody confirm if this will work? Also, an ECU connector pinout 4G15 vs. 4G37 could be useful in determining possible road hazards. Does anybody have such pinouts at hand?

Another possible ECU upgrade may be the Galant 4G63 SOHC stuff (MAS, ECU, injectors). AFAIK the 4G63 has 21 load points in the fuel map while the 4G15 has just 10 or so. This would mean better drivability w/ a heavily modded 4G15 and better idle. Is it possible to use the Galant stuff? Again, pinouts and diagrams would be useful.

Eth, I have the ECU pinouts I'll look and see.... sounds interesting...

Though, the 4G15 ecu doesn't quite match some of the wires I have. Mine has more pins I think, but it's generally right.

Uhh... I couldn't find the 4G37 pinout...

Ive been considering this as well... Ive wanted to use the MAF for better airflow but have been told to use the injectors as well. This requires the use of a SAFC. Hmm. Maybe add the ECU to the equation and bam! Guys , i'm going to search at work for the neccessary components. May take awhile to "aquire" everything i need, as we scrap vehicles i get what i want.
Off Topic: Friday we junked a 87 Conquest 5spd. Trans to make wharehouse space!

Is this even a good idea? Don't forget the 4G37 makes LESS power and LESS torque than the 4G15. It may be that the fuel maps are garbage or something like that.

It may be a better idea to use a 4G93 SOHC ECU instead. For the same displacement it was made almost 20 HP more than the 4G37 (the 16 valve head helps too of course.) I believe it had 210cc injectors (off the top of my head - look it up if you're seriously trying this) and had a distributor in its CC form (the CE 4G93 used DIS.)

The 4G37 makes 98 HP while the 4G15 makes 90 HP. But you're right, both the 4G37 and 4G93 have 210 ccm injectors.
However, I think the 4G93 dissy SOHC ECU will be too different to adapt. But this is just my oppinion, nothing well founded. OTOH there are probably more ECU gimmicks out there for the 4G93 than the 4G15 or even the 4G37. Thanks for the input!

For those who want it, I have the complete 4G37 diagram scanned in as two .jpg files.

also available at www.geocities.com/berserko_1/c50 look under wiring diagrams for the 1.5 and under 90 or 91 talon for the 4g37 ecu pin outs...

Ok I have verified the 91 Talon 4g37 ECU as compatible with the 4g15 12v I have not ran one officially BUT I have pulled my mitchells compared pin to pin and from everything I observed the look to be compatible. As for 4g63 SOHC I cannot confirm BUT I have also confirmed the 4GCS (aka 4g64 from a 91 Sonata) is pin for pin compatible with the 4g15 12v This drives my point closer to home get a 4GCS from a 91 Sonata get motor mounts from a 92-95 elantra and get an ECU from a 91 Sonata use the existing 4g15 wiring harness bolt it in and drive away a 30 hp upgrade that could EASILY be done in an afternoon not so nasty just drop in the motor no wiring no pain.... These motors are cheap too... really nice easy motor swap...

Right on! I'm on the hunt for ECU and injectors (already have the MAF) to try in the 4g15. I'll keep ya posted when i get everything and try it out. That swap sounds too easy! 30hp!

I think he's saying the 4GCS engine is identical electrically to the 4G15, so all that would need to be done is plug 'n' play the entire engine, MAF, and ECU for the 30hp upgrade.

Someone try this, so the rest of us and try this a get some nice HP outta our 4g15's :-)

Hey maybe the G4CS ECU, injectors & MAS are upgrades for the 4G15, too! Berserko thanks for doing the dirty work and finding out about it!

I run the 4GCS MAF on the 4g15 ECU it works poorly for speed but makes my fuel milage incredable....
