I'm from The Philippines and I have a 1991 Lancer GTI Sedan with the 4G15 SOHC 12V.

I'm doing a complete restoration and overhaul of the engine and transmission and I need the manuals. I've found a few 4G15 manuals with the latest one having revisions in 2000/2001, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate to use those.

I'm also repainting and doing body work with an oven, so everything inside and outside must go so an ECU pinout or anything electrical will be useful aswell.

I'd love your replies, opinion and recommendations.

Not quite sure what I'm looking at here.

I could use more guidance.

89-92 CSM or Mirage Colt manuals, 89 Turbo will work also because it has both engines/wiring setups listed in the FSM (Factory Service Manual).

Your pinouts on the ECU will be a little different.

You might not have an 02 sensor, EGR or catalytic converter.

Do you have a 4g15 carburetted setup? or MPI fuel injection? Distributor on right side of head above transmission or front of motor. 12V motor has distributor on right side of head.

I don't think we had Cat's at the time. Neither have I've heard of those sensors in the time we've owned the car. We are the first owners since 91'

4G15 ECI-Multi But I think that's just another word for MPI. Distributor is on the Left side when looking at it from the front, opposite of the belts.

We've had it completely stock as much as possible since 91'. It's recently lost compression on Cylinder 2 most likely to old age and it was complaining about the TPS and ISC before it lost the Cylinder. Is the sensor and ISC repairable or would we have to replace them?

EDIT: I could post a photo of the engine bay if you'd like. Would you have a good guess on what transmission it has? It's an 5-M/T and it would grind often when going to Reverse, so I'd like to get it overhauled aswell since everything is basically being done.

Frame is C62A if that makes any difference.

You have a model that works with those manuals. Wire colors may differ slightly because you had fewer emissions (catalytic, 02 sensor, EGR?) and so on.

ISC and TPS are motor/sensors that simply bolt onto the head at the throttle body. I highly suggest getting a set of JIS screwdrivers if you are taking out old Mitsubishi or Toyota screws. Some are VERY tight and could use the use of a hammer to shock them and then the screw/bit on a ratchet assembly.

Pictures would be great! We love seeing the differences in some of these cars from other markets.

Please check out ASA online at PartsBase.org, as it will give you access to all the mitsu part numbers to use as a cross reference for aftermarket listings for exact replacements.

Which one? The first one you linked? ( http://www.lilevo.com/mirage/89-92%20Co ... es%20.PDF/ ) I've also found this before I started this thread and i'm wondering if it's recommended to use and reference too? ( http://mitsubishi-motors.kiev.ua/Manual ... 20/11A.pdf )

But is the TPS and ISC Repairable or cleanable? Reason I ask is acquiring replacement, surplus, or NOS may be difficult.

Is it recommended to use loctite/thread sealer/anti-sieze on all bolts, nuts, and screws?

Loctite only on chassis bolts (red - requires heat to remove without galling threads), blue for less worrisome bolts (engine mounts, etc). Most bolts come out dry and do in dry in nearly all other circumstances.

Read what you see on each bolt as you take it out. If there is a form of thread locker (random color from back in 198X), then reference above, or ask us.

Either manual should have what you need, but the turbo manual has the 1.6L stuff that is harder to find. If that manual is 1989, compare to the 89-92 manual and see if there are any differences to what you see with your loom coloring. Some will be different, but very similar mainly where it counts. If not, we can help.

ISC tip can be cleaned - watch out for chemicals getting into the mechanical base ....

TPS cannot be cleaned, and when bad, requires replacement. Both should be readily available online. Check RockAuto, Ebay ... or call Mitsubishi for a laugh at how much a new OEM unit would be.

Alright i'll compare the two manuals and decide on which one to print for the mechanic and Machine Shop.

Where can I find the model number of the transmission? It needs to get repaired as 1st and mostly Reverse grind.

What is the break-in procedure? Is it listed in any of the manuals?

EDIT: Is loctite/thread locker absolutely necessary? I don't recall mechanics over here using them on repairs.

Trans model should be on a smooth `plate` right below the cylinder head on the top of the trans case bell housing.

Break-in procedure is quite an interesting topic.

Uhh... Things have been deleted?

You linked to a manual I can use with my EFI engine right? I'm 80% sure the Lancer will be started on next week so I'd like a confirmed manual.

Been driving a Modified Corolla since the Lancer lost a Cylinder so I'd love for it to be back! :D

Sorry, there was a site hacking meant we had to restore the site back to April 10th, 2016.

If you join us on facebook, there is a forum there for CSM Performance, sometimes things can only answered there if no one has personal emails or phone numbers handy; as we just found out.

PM me for more info on that.

Question for you!

Which cylinder went down and how do you know it was bottom or top end? Lots of issues with valves, so maybe a cylinder head swap is all that is needed to refresh the motor for now?

All manuals are located here:

http://www.lilevo.com/mirage/
http://www.lilevo.com/mirage/Manuals/

The 89 Colt turbo manual is the main manual with most, if not all the portions of the actual FSM's listed in PDF form in the directory.
The 1989-1992 Manuals listed, contain random stuff from Mitchell, dates back many years, but still technically correct. Lots of crossover stuff too, for later reference.

This manual here, is the exact manual that you need for the early engines. The manual listed below it in the directory, is for much later versions (printed 1995-2000):

http://www.lilevo.com/mirage/Manuals/4G ... 9001-A.pdf

It's one of the middle cylinders. And regardless of the problem overhauling it would be a good idea since it has already done 200,000KM and the workload in those Kilometers is different from what's experienced in the USA.

What's the difference between PWEE9001-A and PWEE9001-E-W? Is the PWEE9001-E-W the manual for engines after the 3G CSM like you mentioned?

I think I lost my bookmark for the Fault Code table (using analog meter or test light) and ECU Pindata (voltages and pin#) where could I get those and the ECU Diagram?
