If you are hydraulic, then the f5m31 will work. Using one now on a 1.5

1.8l equipped Talon/Eclipse/Laser (1990-94) and 88-92 Galant are some that come to mind.

So my clutch and axles would work with it?

The na 1g dsm's used the F5M22. The CSM axles won't work since the stubs are shorter. I thought the F5M31 came in the 94-98 Galants and the fwd summit/expo/colt vista.

I really need to figure this out before I drop money on a trans I'm.stuck with. Another F5M21 would be great if anybody had one for sale. Its just a work car I need to get back on the road.

Im confused. 89Mirageman says that the axles wont work. So the F5M31 trans is the way to go?

It looks like the slave cylinder on the F5M31 trans has a rod that pushes the fork. My F5M21trans has a little bracket on the end and a pin goes through it with a clip to the slave cylinder.

My colt had already come converted to the f5m31. I assume you would need a slave from a 1g eclipse unless the clutch forks are interchangeable?

All I know is that the inner axle stubs that snap into the diff on the transmission are longer on a 1g dsm than they are on a 1.5 3g csm. The diameter and spline count are the same between both but I don't think the 1.5 axles will snap into the diff like they should. Maybe I'm missing something here. If Thom says he's running the same setup I don't doubt his word. I just don't see how the axles are staying in. Maybe there's something I'm overlooking.

Couldn't I just get axles for that F5m31 trans and use the inner joints on my axles?
