Post subject:  4G15 without an exhaust??

I drive a 91 Dodge colt with a 4g15 motor all standard I have a quick question.... I want to put a side outlet exhaust on my car but I was wanting to know how it would sound straight piped granted I am wanting to drop a 4g63 into it later which I know how that sounds already. What I guess I am trying to get at is does a 4g15 sound good without an exhaust on it or does it just sound like a wanna be Honda  because if it does im not going to do it :o .. Thank you

what do you mean side exhaust? like coming out by the rear tire?.. if so then you need to put a muffler under the car so its legal to drive.. my car is swapped and has it exit just in front of the rear tire.. I have a cat..a silencer and a full size muffler stuffed under there to keep it quiet... probably didnt answer ur question but it gives u a idea what needs to be done.

I made my rear exit 3" exhaust, with just a ricer can as a muffler, back when I had the 4g15. I actually got a lot of complements on how it sounded, as well mad many jokes about my ricer 3" exhaust for 66whp of fury. Not any rasp like honda's. having the exhaust finished made swapping the 4g in later just a little quicker. I say do it.

It will sound like shit. It's a 75hp economy engine.

Granted if the exhaust has no muffler and or is so big as to cancel the effect of scavenging and proper flow, read the exhaust is 3" mated to a 4g15, you aren't going to like it at all.
Worry about the exhaust when the 4g63t setup is in and ready for the road. Besides until you decide on your turbo (14b or 16g/G or larger), your exhaust requirements may have you thinking 2.5" or 3".

If the car you have now, is equipped with a fully functioning exhaust system and has a catalytic converter, keep running what it has.

I understand where you guys are going with all this but until I get the 4g63 in I want a little bit louder car which way do you think would be the best but not so expensive? and I wouldn't completely straight pipe it im not taking my cat off at all even with my 4g63 done...

Cut off the muffler, done. Honestly, if your big concern is to make the 4G15 loud, then a 4G63 swap is probably never going to happen. Gotta prioritize, man.

well that's not true when I do my 4g63 im doing it right with a full exhaust not sure which one yet but that's why im not worried about the exhaust I have right now because its going to have to come off anyway to make room for a bigger outlet exhaust.

Cherry bomb (for the 4g15) or Cherry bomb Super turbo or Magnaflow with offset pipes in a 2.5" flavour (ready to accept the 4g63t setup when it gets made, just cut and paste back in).

Cut the exhaust off and drive by your English teacher's house a couple hundred or more times.

If you cut the exhaust, yes it will be louder.

It it supposed to enhance the air flow and give you a couple more hp's... but study about the effects on backpressure.

I've got my exhaust coming out by the tire, straight pipe from the cat back with a 3" piece on the end, it sounds pretty nasty. But i like it, and they don't call us outlaws for nothing right?

Yea yesterday I took apart the exhaust where it connects behind the driver side wheel and I got to admit it sounds pretty cool its a lot deeper than I thought t would be for being a tiny 4 banger.

Are you f**king serious?

Outlaws?

In a ghetto straight-pipe colt?

That's the sort of shit that causes trouble for the rest of us, not 'cool' 'outlaw' behaviour. I pay ridiculous insurance premiums because dumbtards drive like idiots in slow, stupid loud, cars.
