Thanks for the help guys. I bought a coolant temp sensor and PCV valve (just in case) before work. I cant wait to get off and put this thing and slap my head for a $20 dollar part that I shouldve replaced. Well today is Sunday prior to Superbowl and I am bummed out that I got the incorrect part from Autozone. Their part system is matching same CTS for hyunda, mirage, colt is not the right one. I went to pepboys and ordered the right one. So anybody out there looking for CTS dont get it from autozone. Ill update as soon as i can when i get the CTS by Monday.

got the box from cuda68. thanx a lot sir!

OK I have step by step replaced all the CTS, IAC, PCV. So far I have fixed the idle surge after I replaced the IAC valve, it didn't fix the rough idle when I get to start the car and it didn't fix the problem that the car feels like it is gonna die when it warms up. The CTS which we all thought to be the problem didn't help at all. I had high hopes for the simple CTS solution. I now share the same probems which I have seen very common in this forum among other members without a solution. I am checking sparks on all plugs and they are there. My phone needs to convert my videos to quicktime so I cant upload vids at this time but I will shoot with my Canon when I can tonight. Im waiting for it the car to cool down again to get a coldstart before I try again with Cuda's rebuilt ECU. I read somewhere someone said replace CTS but nobody has confirmed that it fixed their idle problem or cold start problem. As suspected, Its not an easy fix. Idle surge was fixed by IAC and seems to be the only probem fixed. Problem # 2 fixed. How to get the car started easily in the cold without the idle bogging down or the engine dying before it warms up, I have yet to find out. Again, my biggest problem of all is the amount of money spent and will be spent instead of doing a swap. I need this car fixed, drive it up for a while to be reliable until I gather enough funds for the awd swap.

I learned first hand how finicky these motors can be if timing and the ECu are not setup properly from the start. There is a rundown at www.lilevo.com\mirage\ in the Mitchell's files but also in the FSM (factory service manuals). If the ECU and timing and idle RPM, then you will get surge just like with a DSM, and likely make it harder to start also. Read the FSM and maybe more information can be gleaned from there; it has even too long since I owned a 4g15 equipped car that I cannot remember the exact process.

Thank u so much. my first hunch was the ECU. thats why i am ever so thankful to Cuda68 for speedy transaction with the sale. im happy to let you guys know my cold start issue was resolved with an ECU replacement. now i can move on to my other quest. thank you once again.

The ecu is usually the second suggestion after the CTS issue, it's cheaper to replace the CTS first. Congrats.

I have bought a new temperature sensor in the past to try and fix a hard cold start. Ended up being a head gasket failing, so now I have
two good sensors. ;)

thanks a lot! Thats why I tried one step at a time and trying cold starts in between. I was really hoping it was the CTS but thanks to Cuda68, he sold me his rebuilt ECU also and so far holding up. I was getting frustrated knowing I only have that option left after eliminating the CTS. I appreciate eveybodys help here. Now, I wonder how hard would it be to swap to manual awd 4g63 swap. I do want to paint the car first hmm maybe pearl white off the new rav4.
