Got the motor all put back together and started it up last night. It was my first head gasket job, so I am left with a couple experience-related questions to ask you guys.
1. I bought a Felpro gasket, the Permatorque variety. It said on the website that retorqueing head bolts was unnecessary using their gasket, or shouldn't be done, I couldn't tell. What do you think?
2. Head bolts only get torqued down to around 55 ft.lbs., SERIOUSLY?

1) It's fine, as long as you cleaned the surfaces correctly. I usually mill the head too.

2) Yep that's right, actually 53 lbs/ft from what I looked up

mine started to leak instantly on me when i did it the other month. so i just took and torqued them to like 95Lb/ft and it has been good so far! I have a rebuilt motor ready to go in it when it does go again! lol

That's not good! Was the gasket a Felpro like Incoltnito bought? Is there a possibilty that your head is slightly warped from over-heating?

I think so but i made a big no no. i copper coated both sides of the gasket, so i am quite sure that is why it was leaking. its good now though!

Copper tack is okay on a head gasket but you can't use a lot of it. Just a light misting.

yeah i pasted it on pretty good not really thinking about it till later. It was not overheated before, so the head should be good, it was just spewing oil out the front of the enigine on the mating surfaces.
